Photographer's Note
Nan, Thailand.
I was gone for three days doing a community service to Nan in northern Thailand. I was with my 17 co-teachers who braved 11 hours on the road one-way. We brought along with us boxes and boxes of donations of clothes, sweaters, blankets and food. A Redemptorist priest, Fr. Peter, brought us to two villages of Hmong minority groups and this was where I took this picture.
Children were everwhere. And they were so goodlooking (mixed Thai, Chinese). They were also so cooperative. As an avid children "photographer", it was a paradise for me. I took a lot of good pictures (by my own standard) and I guess it would take almost a month before I finished posting them all. Each of the picture has its own story. Bear with me for the next three weeks or so...
She was one of them. Actually, she was one of the cleanest and tidiest among all of them. What caught my attention was her marble eyes. They were supposed to descend from the Chinese race but her big eyes speak otherwise. Nonetheless, when I called her to pose for me, she stopped eating and gave me this engaging look. And I took lots of pictures of her. As far as I am concerned, my community service wasof mutual benefit to me and the children. I am planning to do something with my photographs (maybe a postcard/calendar) to give more to them. Should you wish to help, you are certainly most welcome.)
(BTW, I am using my brothers Nikon D100 over in this trip. I must say that the quality of my pictures are far better than the ones I took with Nikon Coolpix 4500. Thus, Maciek, Darren and Claude...I have made up my mind. I will shift to Nikon D70 this week. In the meantime, I'll get back to sleep coz I havd just arrived. Be back later.)

A very strong portrait, as often Manny. Technically perfect with the DOf so well placed. I get a feeling from her serious and concerned face and eyes that she is more worried about you and your well beeing.

The eyes. That's it. Just the eyes.
I didn't see the rest of the picture the first time I looked at it!

A very strong portrait, Manny. The eyes are really doing almost all the trick here, in combination with her slightly upward-looking glance. Nice tight framing that still shows a bit of her surroundings. Great story in your note, and be assured I'm looking forward to more of your pictures from that trip.

Big expression of the child, which does it seem to say with this small wrinkled mouth? A secret moment between her and you. Beautiful composition, the light is excellent here and colours also.
Grande expression de l'enfant, que semble-t-elle dire avec cette petite bouche crispιe? Um moment secret entre elle et vous. Belle composition, la lumiθre est excellente ici et les couleurs aussi.

Her eyes don'l look like marble to me, more like some precious stones.
Excellent portrait.
