Hello Rosemary,
In a way any photo of a young woman with her small sister would be appealing and charming, But this picture goes far beyond being merely charming. It's technically superb, perfectly sharp and very well converted to B&W with a very fine greyscale. The two persons are seen against a perfect dark background and they are very nicely framed by the rough wood of their house. The elder girl shows a strong tenderness towards her sister and you had a perfect eye-contact with the little girl.
Actually I took it for granted that this was a young woman and her child, so I had to partly rewrite this comment after belatedly reading your note or looking at the title ;-).

There is nothing like the innocent play of children to warm the heart, What a little sweetie I personally think it is an adorable warm hearted image, that you will never capture again, a slice of time never to be forgotten. A beautiful expression in a natural environment and happyness of this cutie that you have captured so well. She is so relaxed and natural yet full of energy in such a great clarity right on her facial feature and the most valuable element - the eye connection and the catch light is there uplifting this to high level. An extremely good photograph, detail and real life. Very good capture that says a lot and tx to your descriptions. Congrats

che bella, la srella piω grande osserva l'altra con lo sguardo attento, pronta ad intervenire in ogni momento, mentre la piccola θ concentrato su ciς che stai facendo tu.
Un bel ritratto che permette di ammirare la determinazione della sorella maggiore grazie anche alla scelta del b&w.

Hi Rosemary,
I agree with the comments that mentn the eye contact with this young girl, it seems we can see almost into her soul, and her eyes have a true capture of childhood innocence. This looks stunning in black and white and you have framed the whole scene so well both with the wooden doorway which has fantastic texture and the shape of the photo. A beautiful portrait.

for me it΄s like a quintessence of a good portrait(unfortunately I΄ve never had good eye and skills for this kind of pictures)
