Photographer's Note

This is taken on the famous "Bridge Over the River Kwai MkII". After a good half hour jostle trying to get over the bridge amongst the swaths of people (and a train at one point!) I was granted this perfect shot of a solitary man, old enough to have fought in this region when war was raging. I already had my camera set up on my tripod, so all I had to do was be FAST! I think I was fast enough here, and captured a fleeting, solitary moment. This image speaks to me of the foolishness of war and memories.

The only thing I don't like about this picture is the very grainy sky. This is because I over used the burn and dodge tool in PS. A much better way to create this effect is to create a new layer, convert it to soft light, then reduce opacity to 50%. Then use whatever brush you fancy on this layer to dodge (using white) and burn (using black) the impact this has can be altered by adjusting the pressure of the brush, or the opacity of the dodge/burn layer.
