Photographer's Note
This is one of the most innocent faces I have seen in Nan. She's a Hmong kid, full of life, innocence and charm. I wanted to post a more tidy picture of her so I started to clean her up using PS. Halfway through it, I reflected and decided against it. This is her, the real her. This is her real life and her real soul. The eyes are indeed the windows of the soul.
I have a lot of compelling portraits of Hmong kids but this one I considered as one of my favorites. Maybe because I can see myself in her eyes?

Wonderful portrait. As you say, the innocence printed in her face, but not only the innocence I see, I feel sadness too. I agree with your note, and this is one of the best children portraits in TE.

If everyone saw themselves in the eyes of the children the world would be free of hatred, just my personal opinion. Beautifully captured, framed and cropped. Certainly a favorite.

This is beautifull Manuel. So innocent but also very honest. That is one of the things i love with children. They don't pretend. I think this pictre symbolices just about everything i love about children. great shot.

DOF, framing, exposuring, angle, all choices you made are well balanced and technical perfectly executed. What really strikes me how well you succeeded in isolating one specific moment out of our daily lives and opening our eyes to see her beauty. And you are absolutely right Manuel, this _is_ the real her, no posing, no pretending...

Stunning and so impressive! I admire your idea not to "clean" her up - life is what it is and the added sugar doesn't make it more digestive... Her eyes are inclredibly beautiful and draw the attention to themselves like a magnet - as if there is a door to another world.. Excellent shot Manny!

I like the way you are cropping this capture. did you get inspired by claude? or natural for you? Fantastic capture Manuel - how could I miss her. Those eye realy something special, never seen reflections like this (a double self portrait ;-) Yes she could need a clean up, but not with PS - very good work indeed.

Definetly one of your best shots! The tight crop with the girl's face a bit off-center, the DOF and great colors work in perfection.
You're right about letting the dirt on her face. It shows the reallity and that's very important in portraits (more than in other tipe of photos I suppose).
