Photographer's Note
Nan,Thailand.
Kids always fascinate me. While my other companions were in the chapel hearing a mass, I went around the village in Nan. Before long, I was a Pied Piper (with camera). They were vying for my attention. It is always my practice to look where no one else looks. In a nearby hut, there was this family of five small kids looking after each other. This boy was one of them. Judging from their sizes, I think he was the third kid. He was on the dirt floor all the time but he had this engaging smile everytime I looked at him. The colored thing in front of him was the oldest brother's legs in colorful jogging pants. After this shot, I moved closer and I learned that this little boy was looking after the smallest kid. Six small children looking after each other...
I like this picture because of the colors. It is ironic that in the most unlikely place, rainbow can be seen shining through. You just need to look around. Actually, kids bring it anywhere they go.

Beautiful child and note too. The colors are marvelous against the dreary background. Glad you left the area behind him so the world can see what you saw. His eyes are gorgeous.

What I really like here Manny is how the right hand portion of the photo is full of color, yet the rest of it is dull. To me, this emphasizes the joy children can find in any place. I also like how the colors of the flag are reflected in his face. I wish his hair didn't blend into the background as much as it does, but little you could do about that I think. Good shot Manny.

You are blessed with a special inner sight Manny! It is easy to shoot at a lovely, well dressed in decent clothes, sweet kid with a clean outlook...the difficult job is to spot a kid like this one out and show it - to prove that children all over the world are all alike, with their serene souls and pure hearts. I love the way you composed the picture and included the colourful spot as well as the modest environment. Great job!

Great composition and framing. I especially like how the right part of the image is quite colorful and the left part dark brown – great background. I also like the look of the eyes. Very well done.

The colour against the almost monotone background is striking and makes him stand out well. Bright colours and kids go together well and this is no exception. Great shot.

A lovely photo. Like everyone I`m immediately struck by the strong colours on the right hand side. If I took a shot like this, my first thought would be to crop the left, but you have left it and it is an important part of the whole composition.

I like this shot a lot because of the many contrasts in colours, textures and expressions. I have not been to Nan neither seen the Hmongs in person so thank you for this picture.

The combination of this photo and the story really touches me, Manny. Composition is unique, with splashy color on the right and a quite dull left half of the frame. In addition to the bright colors, the eyes and look of the boy are doing the magic here.

it is a nice picture, beautifully composed. his expression is charming. the picture is a bit dark though and a bit too soft, i'd play with it in PS a little. but it doesn't change the fact that it is a very nice photo

great DOF Manny, even if I must admit that IMO it is not your best shot so far. The color of the flag bugs me a bit and maybe too strong versus the kid in lower contrast.. but it is reality on the other hand, so...Technically, nothing to say, it is perfect for me.

Your note really sets the scene for us, Manuel - and I like the way you have shown us the boy's living conditions as well. The boy has a nice warm expression and the colours are excellent. Well seen.

Very nice the expression of this kid. I like very much as well the contrast with the colors, even could have been interesting leaving the left side in black and white to remark this contrast. Nice picture !!
