Photographer's Note
What I first noticed about this man was how deeply tanned he was. I have found that to be quite unusual in Asia, as most Asians I have come across go to great lengths to avoid tanning, often wearing huge hats, and longs sleeves, even on very warm days. It seems the European and North American ideal(for some) of a dark brown tan does not hold the same glamor where I have visited in Asia. This man however, seemed very proud of his tan. Obviously the result of he job of performing maintence here at the Sun Yatsen Memorial Hall grouds. The second thing I noticed about him was how quickly he moved. It was very difficult to set up a shot of him while he worked.

Beautiful, Darren, simply beautiful. I like everything about this shot, from your framing to the colors to the man himself. Looks like a tough job to do and it takes a tough man to do it, someone like him. I wonder how long he has been doing this already. Would have been very interesting to find out.
The white skin issue in Asia is something along these lines. Most women take care to keep their skin as white as they can in order to attract men as they believe men, Asian men that is, like women with pure white skin. I've been told this by both Asian men and women. The people who have a dark tan have a harder time in finding a suitable husband or wife. Also, some of the Chinese girls I know who have dark skin seek foreign boyfriends who think that darker skin is sexier. Difference in cultures, no doubt.

Very nice capture. The different colors of green here is really soothing for the eyes. He look more burned than tanned on my monitor :)

Beautiful shot, the colours are superb - his reddish brown skin contrasts so well against the cool greens of the water and plants. A nice capture of daily life in Taipei

Great timing, composition, focus and DOF. Color saturation is great. My only concern is the "over sharpened" look of the image. It's hard to put my finger on what it is, but highly sharpened images like this have a slightly artificial quality. Otherwise magnificent.

This is a fantastic shot: Interesting subject, beautiful colors – perfectly framed. Especially I like the lighjt green color on the "trousers" – and how the same tone is repeated on the undersides of the plants. Excellent work.

the way you split your background water vs. plants couldn't be better and nicer to the eye. the character is perfectly positioned.
Colors are awesome with the symphony of muted green tones in the background contrasting with the reddish skin of the man. Everything works very effectively.
Even though you already explained how you processed your scans, i'm always surprised with your smoothy texture effect, specially apparent on the skin parts. Sam pointed out the sharpening issue which I would believe is mostly due to your settings on Neat Image (100% everywhere?) before an additional sharpening.
Excellent image. Though a bit too light for me, 5%-10% darker wouldn't bother me at all.

A supurb image. Great composition, and very very clear. And I love his expressive face. (Do I notice a touch of the School of Cedar here? :-).

Wow Wee! Your observations are spot on, when it comes to tanning in Asia - at least as far as I can tell. He surely must be proud of his work for such an esteemed leader. The composition and color are fantastic, especially so, as he was on the move.

Love this shot. The composition is almost perfect (just the tiniest big more in front of his rake-thing would have been good), the colors are complimentary. A tad more light on his face (impossible in this situation, since you couldn't reflect, flash or pose him) and you'd have something that you should hang front and center. Even as is, it's a highly laudable shot you should be very proud of.
