Photographer's Note
On Wednesday I decided to visit Busan during APEC to see a fireworks display. I knew it would be busy, but i didn't expect everyone and is uncle to visit!
A 30 min journey turned into a 90 min journey...packed all the way.
This photo pushed my G5 too the limit - ISO 400 f2, and turned to black and white to smarten it up a bit!

This is really cool Will. You have done really well in capturing how crowded it must have been. YOur conversion to b&w is really good and I am guessing it was the right choice too. Of course, what really caps this one off is having the kid stored like luggage; that really takes this shot to a higher level. Must have been an uncomfortable 90 minutes.

Hi will,
Really packed indeed. Good b/w that renders both the packed crowd and the loneliness of the kids in the luggage space. He look so amazed to be there looking down the busy day.

Cool,
the benefits of always having a camera with you. Personally Ive never seen anything like this but it doesnt surprise me at all. Remember, when Koreans travel or go to any big event, they all decide to do it at the same time.

Hi Will,
Thought I'd send you some thoughts about this one to start off on the right foot here on TE.
I'll reiterate what I said when I saw the original print. Great Shot! This is one that definetly fits in that "glad I had the camera and took the shot" category. You portray the sitation well, making me feel as uncomfortable as you must have. And the timing is spot on. I also enjoy the cookie-cutter hands holding on for dear life. They add motion and tension.
I do have a question, however, about your choice to change this to B&W. When I compare this to the original colour print I feel less "in the shot". I thought the colour, especially as this was exposed under the oh-so-wonderful flourescent light, added to the feeling of claustrophobia. Why did you choose to go mono here?
aside: Go for the D50. That's 15% of a D2X for a fantastic package. I did see D70s' for about 750, though.

Great photo Will. Like Jer I too saw the original in colour and was blown away by it. I would like to see a larger blown up version of both the b/w and the colour in order to pass a final judgement...
btw, finally joined up on this site and posted my first photo, you will need to go to Malaysia to see my first attempts...for some reason I never seem to have a camera handy in Busan!

Hi Will,
many nice pictures in your gallery; I especially like tihis one, despite some understandable focusing problems, because of the contrst betwenen the serene boy's expression and the stir all around him. I've really never seen a so crowed bus!

I love this one! Good solution for heavely packed metros... Goos photo in difficult conditions! And the choice of B&W gives an extra to it...

Hi again, Will.
Again the subway and, this time, perhaps the best of your subway's metro.
Black and white, composition, moment and, of course, this scene are great.
Well done.

Hi will.
This is a funny shot. I can't stop wondering what the poor kid is thinking?:) I like the fact that the shot is in b&w, it gives it that documentary feel that suits this shot. Of all your shots I must say I like this one the most as it is one of those pictures that tell a good story:)

Just as if I found myself again in Beijing Subway... I think, instead of turning your camera to B&W you should use some other way of B&W conversion. Tones would not look flat that way.
Best regards

Hi again Will,
I was just commenting on your "Hello" pic, talking about a busy man in a busy environment but I guess this is the cherry on the cake! ;-)
I like this row of hands on the right and of course the "luggage kid" ;-).
I agree that B&W is probably the best choice!
Cool that the guy on the left also looks so blasι.
Cheers
Vincent
