Photographer's Note

I love shooting musicians. They pose a challenge in most situations, but none moreso than in a dark club.

I took this image a few years back when I was experimenting with low speed film and push processing. This was taken hand held (no room for tripods at most live shows I've experienced) and shot on TMAX 3200. Do they still make the stuff? I overrated it on the camera to ISO 6400 to get the shutter speeds I wanted and then pushed it in development. I know that perfectionists will cringe at the lack of shadow detail and the amount of grain. I say to them...yes, BUT if I wanted fine grain and lots of detail I wouldn't have shot it like this. I enjoy the emotional impact I get from this shot. It's gritty, like the rock being played that night.
