Photographer's Note
The Merlion and the Esplanade - two of Singapore's most famous landmarks.
This is my 1st time experimenting with night photography with my P&S camera. I was never really fond of capturing night scenes. I took many shots with different settings - some came out bad, some are acceptable. Eventually, my battery died (I didn't bring my spare), killing my excitement. It was a good experiment though, and more importantly, I learned some valuable lessons in shooting night scenes.

Hi Alford,
Nice night shot where the main difficulty was I think not to overexpose the merlion, I like the effect produced by your angle, as the merlion seems to be spitting onto the Esplanade !!!

Cool... a little bit overexposed on the Merlion bottom. You may want to correct it using dual exposure or digital filter.

Hi Alford, You have done a very good job with your first try of evening shot. I have seen a number of photos of the Esplanade. In comparing with other angles, you have well chosen a POV to show the size and beauty of the opera house. Your composition is excellent with the inclusion of the Merlion. Your photo made me feel that I should visit Singapore again. An excellent picture.

I find your experiment wonderful, maybe at left side it statue little bit overexposed, but the other parts of this picture are beautiful, I will be satisfied if I would be possible this.

Superb composition and good exposure. This is your first time for night photography so a little overexposure on part of a foreground is understandable. everything else looks right.

Hi Alford. You did a fine job in capturing this night shot. I like the composition and it was a great idea in getting in front of the fountain to take advantage of the long exposure. I see a little noise but nothing to worry about at all. A very successful first night shot post, keep them coming!

Nice try. I am not an expert in this kind of photography but I think the compo is nice. It is a bit noisy but shooting at night time carries such a risk.

very nice shot of the merlion, I like the composition, but the merlion is a bit over exposed though

Hi Alford, this is a very nice night shot with good exposure. And well composed with the fountain in the foreground and the imposing building in the background. The colours are great. Well done!

A very good night shot and capture. Excelent and difficult angle of view for light exposure and conditions, but with a very good resuling composition. Also a different shot from your usual!
