Photographer's Note
The orangutan exhibit at the Singapore Zoo sits on an island of sorts surrounded by pathways with a body of water separating the two.
It's a common site to see one of the orangutans out of the enclosure with one of the handlers enabling people to get a photo opportunity with them; making news a few months ago when one of them pulled away from one of the handlers to check out a nearby tree.
He was quickly coaxed down a couple hours later with a fresh bunch of .... what else: Bananas.
This was the first time I had seen 5 or 6 of them out of the enclosure all at once. Adults, youngsters and a baby all playing around this tree and the rope attatched to it.
Here we see the baby under the protection of whom I believe is the elder female of the group. If you look closely you can see the babys chewing on a small stick, which could be that he's either teething or possibly picking up on the behaviour of the adults of using a stick to retrieve ants and termites from tough to reach places...
This shot taken at a Focal Length of 268mm on my new Sigma 170-500mm lens. Yesterdays posting was at 170mm.
I hope you like it,
- Dan

The image for the re-post was adjusted using levels to make the image more contrasty as the last seemed to be a bit flat.

Bonjour Dan,
They are really cute! :o)
The image is very fine and crisp, the colours have improved indeed on this re-post and the composition is very well built.
Still the light seems too bright and it looks like the leaves around them are shining and reflecting so much that you got a rather overexposed image.

i'm still disappointed that you've received very few critiques.
the extra saturation and contrast have improved this shot a lot. it's a great effort and not often that we get to see orangutan mother and babies in natural surroundings.
great shot.

Hi Dan. Seeing this shot makes me want to go out and get an orangutan! :) The lens did great with excellent sharpness. The final version is a good improvement over the first. The colors are much richer but perhaps not as realistic. Good one Dan!

Dan, the next time you are in Sabah, call me. With your lens, Sandakan's Sepilok and Sukau is the place to go for wildlife photography here. Just go easy on me when we are shooting orang utans in Sepilok ok. My lens doesn't go as far as yours. Anyway, look over my orang utans of Sepilok.

Hi Dan
Fantastic sharpness & shallow dof. Well composed, with the tight framing accentuating the oranghutan & baby. I like the magenta green color contrast. Well done!

"Knock Knock"...Who's there? Orange!!! "Orange Who!" Orange you gonna smile for the photo Orangutan? Pretty dumb joke I know but its not as bad as that comment about tip toeing through the tulips...Actually it would be cool to have this beast in the tulips...that would make a real good commercial..
Dan this is super nice sharp detail here..I love it man..very nice results with your 5D!!

Hi Dan,
A very impressive capture with your new lens, and worth far more points and attention than to date...This is an endearing scene, and you have caught the enigmatic expressions of elder and young. A crisp clear shot with superb colour tones. I like this one very much. Cheers and have a good Easter weekend, Dan.
