Photographer's Note

Armour-decked cruiser "Aurora", built in 1897-1903. Her name is a name of goddess of morning light - Aurora, Greek name is Eos.
Cruiser was made for strenghening of Pacific Ocean Fleet of Russian Empire, due to the raising troubles with Japan. Aurora was built in New Admiralty in Petersburg and during its service twice did journeys from Baltic Sea to Pacific.
In unhappy Tzusima battle cruiser guarded craft-ships and together with other 4 cruisers fought with 8 Japan cruisers. During that about 100 of her crew was wounded or died, among others her captain was killed by a shell. After the battle cruiser retreated and returned to Petersburg.
Aurora saw some action in WWI, and get her fame when during October revolution her front-gun did a shoot that started the revolt. In WWII her guns were used at the frontier line during Siege of Leningrad, and in 1948 she becomes a museum. Now her exposition represents not only her outlooks, but also guided tours showing the unigue nowadays machines compartments and other insides of the ship.
She is 1 of 5 oldest preserved big ships on Earth: "Victoria" and "Katty Sark" in England, "Queen Mary" in US and "Mikasa" in Japan.
