Photographer's Note
A top view of a farmer planting her ricefields at the Banaue Rice Terraces. Her ricefield is actually just a small portion of the rice terraces, especially when seen from afar. To understand how huge the rice terraces is, I included 2 landscape photos at the Workshop.
Banaue's mountainous rice terraces is one of mankind's grandest scaled engineering feat. The Ifugao tribespeople who created and farmed the rice terraces to supply their staple crop of rice have in doing so left behind an architectural masterpiece. The fact that they were constructed over a 2000 yearspan using only primitive tools and bare hands makes the terraces even more astounding. If the terraces were laid end to end, they would stretch half way around the world.
Banaue is one of the most visited places in the Philippines. Aside from the rice terraces, other notable places to visit are the remote villages, where many people still live in native huts. The village women also weave colorful clothes, while the men are expert woodcarvers. Numerous waterfalls can also be reached by trekking high into the mountains.
Banaue is an adventure. If you really want to get to know the Philippines better - the people, the culture, the traditions, the history - then Banaue is one the recommended places to go to.

Hi Alford
I love the blue 'mini umbrella' hat. Good sharpness saturation color & pov. The repetitive patterns of the rice paddies are attractive. Good shot!

Hello Alford,
I like this photo, I like to see several layer within it split by the road.
The man is well located within the composition.
The DOF is perfect so that we can have very good details.
Indeed a good photo.

Good point of view, composition and balance. That person on right lower corner makes this work too. Really interesting view for me. I think that first curve is very well placed here in your composition. Thank you for this, Alford.

Hi Alford,
The Top-down point of view works here very well to present this daily life scene together with an impressive perspective in the background, the descending terraces add a lot of graphism and the effect of the light playing on them is very nice.
Have a nice day,

Well-composed, Alford. I like the fact that you have a very clear foreground with intricate texture. Her hat is funny...quite modern in a very rural/traditional setting. Good contrast.

Very nice photo Alford and well composed putting the farmer in the lower right corner. Her blue hat drew my attention immediately. The downward perspective is very nice leading the eye along the terraced landscape. Very well done Alford!

Hi Alford, this is a beautiful shot, particularly strong because of the geometry of the terraces. I like the reflection of the water and the texture of the foreground field.
The blue hat is eyecatching as there is no other blue in the photo. A rattan hat would not have had this impact.

Her paddy gives a good scale to the work involved in all the other fields we can see. This is truly an impressive palce.

It is an impressive landscape. And impressive that it was manmade like this over such a long period of time. I really like the green in this. It really gives a lot of beauty to the image. And mixed with the water gives a feel of life all through here. The person is a great focal point and lined up well with the line up the center of the valley. Very sharp and clean, too, and a nice dof. It's really amazing and excellently captured.

Hi Alford! This is a very beautiful picture of the Banawe Rice Terraces! You did a great job! I went there in 1999 and I wasn't able to get a good picture because it was raining.
