Photographer's Note

For years, I have been dreaming of visiting Afghanistan. To me, this is the biggest taboo which screams to be broken! Having grown up in the Soviet Union I heard of Afghanistan since I went to school (1979), and mostly it was wispers and you didn't suppose to discuss the Afghan war in public.

Here is the closest I have ever got to Afghanistan so far. I am sitting at the last Pakistan checkpoint, looking at Khyber Pass and thinking "Afghanistan is so close". I don't know why but I got so emotional there, and then they showed me a piece of the Soviet missle that was fired at the Af-Pak border and landed right near the checkpoint in 1980s... SORRY!!!

There are two one-way roads and if you turn slightly to the left you will see an opening which is already Afghanistan. But, today, here, the main hero is Khyber Pass...
