Photographer's Note

Just going through my photos after hearing of a catastrophic earthquake in Nepal. Have seen this statue in one of the photos from the streets filled with rubble in the agency reports from Kathmandu. This one was taken in 2013.

Bhairava (Sanskrit Terrible" or "Frightful")) sometimes known as Kala Bhairava, is a Hindu deity, a fierce manifestation of Shiva associated with annihilation. He originated in Hindu mythology and is sacred to Hindus, Buddhists and Jains alike. He is worshipped in Nepal,Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand.

Sometimes this can be found as angry Siva.

The statue is located at Darbar Square in Kathmandu.
