Photographer's Note
U Bein is a teak bridge stretching close to 1200 meters across Taungthaman Lake just on the southern outskirts of Mandalay. And what a variety of folks stream past in both directions around dusk. Monks, children, nuns, and your average young man, but in this case in the very "Burmese Longyi". It seemed to me that a good 80% of the males in Burma wear the Longyi. The young man on the right is also wearing powder or "Thanaka", which is almost universally worn by the women but also by some boys and some of the young men. For a larger view: Click Me

Hello Steve,
It seems that Burma has only marginally been modernized in the past 35-40 years. Maybe the percentage of longyi wearing men has gone down from 90 to 80. This picture could basically have been shot decades ago. And the warm colours of late afternoon are also still the same. This may be an ordinary "street" shot but it captures a lot of the essence of Burmese life.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Steve!
I love the light here and there dynamic poses.
Good composition with the few monks walking into the other direction.

Hi Steve
You have shot at the right time of the day. The golden hour is the winner for me coupled by the right subjects in equally stunning red. Simply awesome and fairly good blur has brought out the detail superbly, but the sense of location is not lost. Great effort well timely. captured. Congrats.
Steve, Is the 'bird woman' still around?
Best regards

Hello Steve, This a great "peoplescape" there should be more of them. I am tired of looking at old buildings. Ha Ha. No,I like your shot of these young monks. I am sure they are a very dedicated group of people. You did a nice job capturing their presence. Nice Job. BTW, I have that lens you used. I love it. I was going to buy the 2.8, but it was heavy, expensive and with IS and the ISO setting you can have today, I settled for the f4. Regards, Roger
