Photographer's Note
‘Labuan - Patau-Patau - Living in a stilt house village’
More pictures taken in Kampung Patau-Patau, a water village on the island of Labuan in East Malaysia.
I just loved wandering around on the wooden walkways between the houses.
In my previous photo, some friends noted that there was no hand rail.
A hand rail is only available when a bridge takes you to a higher or lower walkway.
It wasn’t too bad walking around in this village on stilts. Some residents cycle home or ride a motorcycle on these walkways.
Obviously I don't recommend a visit after drinking too many beers :)
Since stilt house villages are built in calm waters of the sea, the water under the houses has little flow and is often not too clean. Not immediately suitable for swimming. But I can't remember any bad smells.
One person asked me inside for a minute. A simple interior, but still a dignified existence.
My main photo shows that there’s also space and love for flowers.

Hi Paul
A very colourful main photo aided by flowers and flags. Great in the large view. I do also like the "bike" shed.

Hello Paul,
Three interesting photos again (the bicycle shed!), and the view in the main photo looks as cosy and carefully attended as any middle class suburban area. The Malaysian flag is flying proudly, but what is the bright flag in the foreground? The local Labuan flag? This really looks nicer than what I saw in BSB, and the weather provided you with very good colours.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Paul,
Les drapeaux attirent le regard. La prise de vue permet de voir les dιtails des maisons sur pilotis. La lumiθre met en valeur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journιe.

Hello Paul,
Living on an elegant neighborhood over the stilts-houses with beautiful flowers-pots that the people so wonderfully care for.
Choice pof POV gave a fantastic view through the trail to the far side house on the water.
The flags added vivid tones to the whole.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hello Paul,
You give me a lovely feeling looking at this photos...making me a little bit of homesick by seeing this beautiful bougainvillea plants which flowers all year round and the Kampung-kampung.
Your pictures have guiding me to see and understand how do the villagers live in theirs daily life. I saw very neat and tidy and well maintained wooden structures - nicely painted in blue mostly and creating a small 'garden' space with some planting.
I don't see many locals around except WS2. Maybe it's too hot to sit outside on the terraces even I see some wind blowing the flag.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Paul,
What a fine series of photographs to help us fully understand the stilt village, the people and the way they live.
There is obviously a pride in their habitations, with flags, flowers and painted verandas. These flowers are not for consumption, they are for decoration, for a pleasing spectacle, just as we would plant flowers in tubs around our houses!
Something that occurred to me Paul was locating people. Do the walkways have names and numbers?
Do the residents get mail?
It could be very difficult to know all the families by name or, is their a post office, and people have to pick up their own mail?
Thanks for sharing this,
Bev :-)

Hello Paul, a very informative set of pictures; we get a great impression of life in a stilt house village.
I notice that there are satellite dishes, so electricity is obviously available, and studying your w/s shots I can see overhead cables!
Your main post is so colourful and eye catching, inviting us to view more!
Thanks for sharing, excellent work.
Kind regards, Jean.

Bonjour, cher Paul,

Hello PAul, Interesting village on stils, Such places are always very attractive. For me, the best example are the villages on the Inle Lake. I have seen also a nice village like this in Thailand. Nice vie wof the flag. Amazing flowers on both sides of the pier.
Have a nice weekend

Hi Paul,
This looks lovely. All those flowers make this place look quite charming. That unpainted hut is picturesque. And flags add colour.

Hi Paul,
a lot of flowers indeed. They decorate the pathways so nicely. The same with flags which bring some more colors as well. So bright and colorful!
I just tried to imagine somebody on a motorbike trying to pass you while taking this photo.
Great reportage, very well done,

Hello Paul,
This is another great shot. I’m surprised to see so many flowers. They really make the view more cheerful. The Malaysian flag is a bonus, too. Do the residents mind if visitors walk around the village?

Hi Paul
The petunias add a bright splash of color, in this Ayer Kampong. Good sharpness and the path adds lead in lines and perspective. Tfs!

Hello Paul.
This place really seems like a different and charming town, they also adorn it with a multitude of flower pots, which beautify the place, the houses seem simple, I wonder to what extent it is safe with the great storms and cyclones, the stilt houses do not look very powerful.
The color and light management are magnificent, highlighting the beauty and sharpness of the image.
Very well done. I like it
Have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hallo Paul, the people living in this village made of stilt houses have their own garden in pots. They have planted bougainvillea and other flowers. I'm surprised to see the houses are equipped with satelite dishes. I recognize the Malaysian national flag. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
