‘Oudomxai - Wat Phu That’
Oudomxai (also written as Udomxai or Oudomxay and also known as Muang Xai; yes sometimes it gets complicated in Laos) is an important traffic junction in the north of the country.
The town is located along the only road from Luang Prabang (historical and most beautiful city in Laos) to the far north and to China.
Wat Phu That is a temple built on a hilltop in the centre of town.
The temple has a 15 metres tall gold Buddha statue.
Especially before and after sunset the views are beautiful.
Some days in the dry season (European winter) can be quite chilly.
But as soon as the sun shines, it gets pleasantly warm.

Hello Paul,
You may have hidden the "easier" or more "viewer friendly" photos in the WS, but I wouldn't necessarily agree they are the best. The silhouettes of the statue and the overhanging branches against the spectacular sunset sky are really beautiful and it's a well exposed photo. The WS show us what this "really" look like, so they are good complements. The temple looks pretty much like what I remember from Luang Prabang.

Your post is once again a perfect report for the place you show us, and this time you wanted to put together the classic WS postcards, a very artistic version, well played with the silhouette of the statue against the light with a magical sunset behind it . Hallo Paul,
Prachtige foto van dit silhouet van het enorme standbeeld gezien tegen de blauwe en gele tinten van de avondlucht. Het ziet er heel indrukwekkend uit, ook omdat het beeld zoveel groter is dan al het andere erom heen. De blaadjes op de voorgrond zorgen voor een mooie natuurlijke omlijsting.

Hello Paul,
Certainly your w/s photographs are excellent and each could have been a main post but there is something quite hypnotic about this one.
The sky colours are so pleasing and warm, and the many features show up well against it and they add a little mystery as silhouettes.
My only suggestion would have been to crop or even better, black out the lit inside of the building on the left. It seems to detract from the overall pattern of silhouettes. Otherwise, everything looks great.

I love the sunset and the framing with the branches draws the eye to the main subject. Still just enough light to be able to see a little of the detail. I read another critique suggesting the light in the bottom left is distracting. Whilst there is some truth in that, without it there would be no real sense of scale, so on balance I think it's good to include it.

Toch hebben we maar geluk dat de regeltjespolitie van TE niet door heeft dat onze manier om gebruik te maken van de werkwinkel eigenlijk niet voldoet aan de heilige regeltjes van TE.
Maar ik heb daar wel blij mee want het is veel aantrekkelijker iets met een paar foto’s in ιιn post goed te laten zien.
Zoals jij dit weer zeer succesvol met deze serie hebt gedaan.

Hi Paul,
It is a special sight to see such a huge golden statue against the sunset sky. I also like the branches adding some framing to the view. Details are more clearly visible in the WS version. But I still prefer this one.

Hi Paul,
great series of photos, including the ones in the workshop.
The main upload here certainly is the best to catch the attention. The gradient of colors in the sky is stunning from orange to deep blue.
The silhouette of Buddha and the not less exotic roofs are the best silhouettes one could wish for.
Great point of view allowed you also some tree branches to frame it nicely.

This silhouette of the large Buddha, with the wonderful colors in the sky, is very nice. I also like the silhouettes of the leaves. We can see more details in the brighter WS photos, but this one is also very attractive. Take good care!

Hello Paul I look at Workshops and read the notes (when they are not too long copies from Wikipedia). The other pictures are nice but just the colourful postcards. The temple is typical in Lao style. I saw a similar walking Buddha somewhere in Thailand, maybe Sukhothai. The main photo is very special I like the silhouettes of the trees above, araucaria and first of all, of Buddha. It looks better than the golden one in full light. Marvellous colours of the sunset.

Hallo Paul, thanks for this information about the tourist information office maybe it moved somewherelse. What a magnificent sunset seen from the temple. The pagoda and giant statue silouhettes can be distinguished in the darkness. I like the inclusion of the leaves in the fg. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Marvellous warm vs cold color contrasts between the orange sunset tints and blue sky. Well managed back-lighting with discernible shadow detail. Punchy light contrasts too. Tfs!
