Photographer's Note
I had other plans for today, but I can show three photos from my trip by boat on the Mekong in 2003.
Although the journey was long and uncomfortable, we sat in the boat squeezed like sardines and didn't feel safe but the views of the life on the shores of the river compensated for all inconveniences. There were no villages on the way but we saw the people on the shore or in the boats. Besides the narrowboats for transportation, there were many houseboats.
Two Workshops will follow.
WS 1# The small boat.
WS 2# The washing day.

Hello Malgo,
The country has certainly changed over the past seventeen years. It got a little more modern.
Recognizable are the steps in earth down to the river and the small boats, motorized and rowing boats.
The curiosity of young people about the arriving boats, however has diminished. In general the curiosity towards foreign visitors. There are so many foreigners.
And what I didn't see at all during my boat trip is the washing in the river.
Maybe it just wasn't wash day ... Maybe they have tap water now ... No idea.
Your photos are wonderful testimonials from 2003.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Malgo,
I'm not in a position like Paul to estimate if these photos represent history, or if they could still be taken today. They are good memories for you. The women standing in the river while doing their laundry is the most "culturally interesting" photo, but the children watching the boat are cuter and we see them better. It would probably have been fun to make a journey like this in 1973, but it was impossible, and in any case flying was more comfortable, if not necessarily safer.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Malgo,
Good textural details in the tiered riverbank. Good sharpness and the women & children animate the scene. There clothing and the plastic 'hessian' bag add a nice splash of colour. Tfs!

Hi Malgo,
You have captured well a daily life scene. The point of view is showing the details of the clothings of the persons. You and Paul have posted picture taken in Laos today. Have a nice day.

Ciao Malgo,Continue the comparison between your old photos and the new ones of Paul, who benefited from a more comfortable boat. Yours are very useful and really beautiful, I'm wondering if you already had the digital camera but I think that not seeing the exif data, they were made with film. Beautiful washing day in the ws !! Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hi Malgo
You and Paul both on the Mekong today. I could have joined the 2 of you but that might have been overkill. A good series of life on the river.
cheers

Bonjour, chθre Malgo,
Amitiιs.

Hello Malgo,
I found it very interesting to learn how important the river is to these local people. It is their means of transport, their laundrette and bathroom, and probably their source of recreation!
The constructed steps confirm how important the river has become.
I was very surprised to see just how deep the water was, at the edge of the river, but a bigger surprise was to see a power boat whizzing past!
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)
