Photographer's Note
This is a picture of the silhouette of Mt. Fuji hovering over the Sinjuku Skyline, Tokyo just after sunset.
To many of Tokyo’s residents and visitors, this picture is a sort of myth. Many of them believe this is some sort of digital trick. Reason being, you can see this view only during the winter months on a clear day. That too only during early morning and late in the evening during sun set. Many who haven’t seen this don’t believe the mountain is so close to the city. When I came to Tokyo, I too couldn’t believe myself when I saw a similar shot in an advertisement hoarding. Only after having stayed for six months in the city, I saw it one december morning and couldn’t believe this amazing sight. In the early morning, the icy top of the mountain hovering over the citys’ skyline is something to be seen. This is also visible just after a typhoon passes over the city and clears all the dust in the atmosphere.
This picture was taken from the 25th floor observatory (free entrance) of the Bunkyo ward office building just opposite to Tokyo Dome. This was shot after one of the many typhoons that hit the city this year.
I used a long exposure of 4sec and aperture of F/22. Little White Balancing, gamma channel correction was made using Nikon Capture 4. USM applied using PS.

Very good photo, nice balance of composition, nice warm colours, technically very well exposed and a capture that isn't often seen makes it a winner.
Very well done.

Beautiful shot, and after reading your note I value its beauty even more. The contrast between the straight, artificial lines of the buildings and the softness of the mountain is striking. Similar contrasts between the natural dusk colors, so sweet, and the artificial light of the advertisment in the foreground. Very nice atmosphere of the end of the day. Well done!

Yes, very true that this is a relatively rare sight. Excellent shot, something worth putting on your wall for sure. The sky is a nice, warm textured color and everything is clear despite the long exposure. I think it might have been better to include more of the buildings at the bottom to ground the shot and give a little more mass to the city. This is a very good vantage point thanks for letting us know where it is.

Beautiful picture, the contrast between the Mt. Fuji (Nature) and buildings (human construction)is great and well seen. I love also contrast between the sky naturals colors and the artificial light of the buldings silhouettes in the foreground. Great scene and mood for this pic. Good note too and rarity of this shot makes it even more beautiful. Very well done! Bravo!!!

You are one lucky person Avijit. When I visited Seattle, I was told similar about Mt. Rainier. and unfortunately, that day was a bit cloudy and I could not see the mountain from downtown. I also missed the Mt. Hood view from portland, oregon downtown.

Grate composition. One can feel how huge the mountain is. And very good description. Thank's for sharing!!!

First, I applaud your alertness so early in the morning. Having read your note, I ask myself whether this could have been taken early in evening, and it seems impossible. Aside from the nice composition and difference of textures, there is the feel of two times, or two kinds of light. One extreme is the cluster of neon in the lower right. The other is above the mountain, and the lingering clouds make it seem the light is pouring down--but slowly.
