Photographer's Note
The year was 1959 [the year listing doesn't go back that far!!] and it was October. I had been assigned this bed in an open bay barracks the day I arrived at Misawa where I worked for the 6921st Security Wing analyzing electronic intelligence. It wasn't much of a living space but at least I had a shortwave radio I bought downtown. After a couple of months I was moved closer to where I actually worked into quarters that at least allowed me to share a single room and had a mattress more than an inch thick
An important lesson here. I was as happy here as I had a job I loved and the joy of being in a foreign country that caught my interest. Being assigned to Japan rather than say some rat hole like Peshawar, Pakistan or Turkey was a real plus.

Having started with an old Rollie way back when, I still have a fondness for old B&W photos. The depth, the composition, the shadows, this is a very nice picture overall.
As a sidenote, my dad was assigned to Turkey about the same time. You definitely had the better gig.
October of 1959... back in the US, the new cars were hitting the showrooms... most notably the all-new Chevrolet Corvair... ah, the days of innocence...

What a great selection of shoes you had!
Another great historical record from you. That radio is amazing. Everything else is so spartan.
