Photographer's Note
The bat signal was a fictional device used by Gotham City to contact or summon Batman when they were in need of help. The light which portrayed the Bat Symbol was projected into the night sky. Similar to the one in our imagination of that comic hero is this one here used in Kyoto's Kiyomizu-dera's Temple to entice the night viewers.
This cold night that brought a deluge of rain to Kyoto was spent wrestling for a little space in which to snap a photo. Despite the downpour, people were out in full force taking in Kiyomizu-dera's ("Pure Water Temple") sights and the changing colours of the trees (koyo).
For this photo, I nestled under a large overhang that provided relief from both the rain and the many camera weilding onlookers.
