Photographer's Note
The Red Fort in Delhi is a large complex overlooking the Yamuna River, built in the 17th century as a palace for the Mughal emperor. Today it is a popular sight for tourists, and for schoolchildren's field trips. The rich cultural heritage and magnificent architecture do not mean, though, that all these children thoroughly enjoy their enriching experience. This is particularly true if they are required to stay close to the nun who is leading their group, as these boys' faces tell us so expressively.
Probably we all remember childhood times like this!

You've captured a different expression on each boy's face - one bored, one solemn and one naughty next to a tired, jaded and serious looking nun, who seems to have a soft heart behind her autoritative expression. This is a beautiful photo on which I can make up a story, especially about the boy in the middle! I also like the colours. Congrats.

How many of these great old photos do you have? This is a true gem. The expression on each boys' face is so different yet they all communicate the same feeling of boredom. I can't decide which face is the most amusing. Maybe the boy on the left, with his half smile and distant gaze. I imagine that he is day dreaming of something funny. There are so many ways of interpreting this photo, it should be on the front of a card with some funny captions. Excellent capture.
Take care,
Ryan

Hello Ken -
The boy's expressions are classic. This image would make a great B&W. All of technical stuff is right on. Great job Ken, well done!
Thank you for sharing

Why do nuns and monks make such compelling subjects for photography? It's an interesting question as to why this should be, but there is no question that they do make good subjects. This is a wonderful shot Ken, really interesting expressions and poses. The lighting and setting are great too. I think this may be one of your best ever!

Excellent image, funny, superbly crafted, Ken...I would never have guessed it was in Delhi. I would have thought somewhere in Iran or Turkey or central Asia. Each fellow has a distinct expression, as you say, and there lies its captivating appeal. The color has a beautifully quaint tone. Excellent image.

Ken,
A striking one... The serious nun & unconcerned, bored boys...A contrasting pair.
May be a bit of sharpness would have helped.
Cheers,
Prem.

Ken: great quad portrait. A nice smooth scan too. maybe could've sharpened a hair more, but the overwhelming and dominant mood of your funny picture compensate... c

Hello Ken,
Like all good art, this is open-ended. Different viewers will take away different interpretations in this nicely composed shot— the studious nun, the boys with different expressions... The definition and the earth colors came out well in this masterfully scanned slide. If these boys were 7-8 in the photo, they must now be college age now.

Bulent

Hi Ken,
I just love it, their expressions are really fantastic! And you title could not be more apropriate! This picture made may day, funny and beautiful at the same time. I love the color. I see you took this out of your achives so I imagine the 'sepia' tonas are natural. Really beautiful.
Best Regards,
Flavia

Absolutely captivating photography.
It's possibly one of those occurrences when natural setting is so perfectly organized, that you have all the rights in the world to think it was ...STAGED !.
All four models in their placed in their… well…places.
The colors, the compositions, the atmosphere.
!!!
Ken… It's a MASTER photo. So well played. So perfect.
I'm kinda envy, you know…
Great work. Two thumbs up. Way up.
All the best, dear friend.
Have a great, peaceful holiday.

That is the best of the best of the best! ;) Love it, Ken! There is something in this photo that cheers me up. That makes me believe in life, in the good, in the lightness. The bored, the serious, the mischievous. What a timing! And that fabulous nun who seems more intent on her book... She looks quite serious, but then, I am discovering the flowers and everything is light again! Oh, I hope you understand what I mean, Ken. English is not always easy for me to express feelings...

The scene is so serious and still it evoces a smile, this contrast between the boys like they were punished to sit still by the nun with her colored flowers jumping out, what a contrasts in this still and that makes it indeed funny. Well supported by the soft warm colors as a tableau.
Got a bit more time now Ken, after 6 months of travelling.

Very impressive photo, Ken!
A true joy to watch. Every person has his role here, his element of interest, his contribution for the whole of the image.
Even the tones and texture of the background help. And the flowers on her hand...
Congratulations for a great shot.

Great stuff, Ken. Hard to tell who is having the least fun - the nun or the choir :) I reckon some bright spark could write a thesis on the body language on display here.
I like the ragged shirt-tail of the guy at the left and the glum expression of his mate in the centre. Looks like the one on the right drew the short straw to be the soloist. Best title I've come across for a while too.

WOW..you have managed to capture the perfect picture..every body has a unique expression..and add a unique element to the pic as do the beautiful tones and details of the atmosphere..just to set the record straight thats most probably a pious muslim woman..rather than a nun..but that does take the fun out of the title:).
