Photographer's Note
The huge Meherangarh Fort sits above the Rajasthani city of Jodhpur. The wall at the final gate into the fort proper, bears the handprints of the royal 'satis', the wives of the Maharaja who threw themselves onto the flames of their husband's funeral pyre. It is said that six queens & fifty-eight concubines became 'satis' when the maharaja, Anjit Singh, was cremated in 1724.
