Photographer's Note
Having a little bit of fun with this post.
Water and building reflections are very popular here on TE, so why not continue with that theme but mix it up somewhat.
This scene was captured once again at Varanasi, early in the morning with the orange glow of light still present. And once again, like my previous post, we have another man getting a shave from a barber.
Its quite odd for me to see an Outdoor Barber! You just don't get to see that here in Canada :)
I positioned myself so I could see both men in the reflective mirror. After the photo was taken and I walked passed the men, they both gave me a thumbs UP, they enjoyed it.
Hope you do too.

Hello Craig,
Outdoor barbers are unusual to us, in the west. I remember being similarly surprised in Pakistan!
This is an interesting shot, recording the different habits of other cultures. Maybe, if the weather was more reliably warm and dry, we would have more outdoor work places!
A nicely angled shot to catch the front and back of each person. Vibrant colours are obviously a choice, here, whilst in our country very neutral colours are more favoured.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig,
You have taken full advantage of the situation to create a very original composition. The close framing works well concentrating on the two protagonists whilst still giving us a flavour of the surroundings. I like the expression on the barber's face. I am not sure what my barber would make of it:-)

Hello Craig,
A well spotted moment in the street. You composed this very nicely (and avoided having your own face reflected). Apart from being such a very typical glimpse of daily life in India this photo also has some very nice areas of red, green and yellow. Among the things that makes India such a great country for traveling is the safety (comparatively) that allows foreigners to feel relaxed in the streets, and most people's generous attitudes towards cameras.
Cheer,
Gert

Bonjour Craig,

Hello Craig,
I love barbershop photo's and this is a great one.I love the reflection of the victim. The mirror is positioned in a way that the client can hardly see himself and really has to do his best, what he does.
fun and a good photo too.
thanks and regards,

hi Craig
unique idea, and it works well, the mirror image is like a view into another world, as it reflects a background very different from what we see in the rest of the shot. Also, the colors are very cool, that vivid red and lush green are like a tv show teaching kids about color, the mirror in particular is really striking.
From the mens poses, you would never know that they were even aware of you. And now they are famous here on TE! The light is perfect too, lots of cool elements combined.
cheers

Hi Craig, I loved all outdoor barbers, shoe makers, tailors, we do not see them in Europe or USA. Nice reflections but there are also other fine details. Look at this yellow chair! In India you have plenty of such pphoto opportunities, it is why I love India so much.

Hi Craig,
Beautiful scene well captured.Excellent the reflections in the mirror. A theme that I really like, since approximates my job. Always interesting to see how it goes elsewhere. The chairs are not very comfortable in my opinion!Lol

Hi Craig,
Yes, indeed, outdoor barbers are not amongst the things we are used to seeing in the west. Not only that, but here in Britain it's very rare to see anyone being shaved in a barber's shop - most people visit the barber's just for a haircut.
A wonderfully colourful scene with lovely soft warm light and excellent details throughout. I love the pose of the two men - they actually both look a little grumpy here but I am pleased that they greeted you after you had taken their photograph and also seemed pleased that you'd taken the shot.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Sorry I've been absent from TE for a little while - really must get catching up! :)

Hello Craig
That this is in fact an outdoor scene can only be seen in the genius reflection in the mirror where the background is giving the location away. Perfect framing as to not include yourself in the mirror and the portrait of the two men forming a picture within the picture.
An everyday scene that can be seen all around India a countless time over and over and that is what makes that country so special for us westerners.
happy easter
Daniel

Hiya Craig
So you're a perfect street photographer, and it was worth! Right framing to include the vision of the barber and his customer in the mirror, nice contrasting colors (red vs green). Maybe the owner could sit and have his beard shaved!
Congratulations

Hello Craig,
nice the snapshot from the interior of the barber shop with the reflections on the mirror to complete perfect the whole scenery. Before six or seven decades ago you can see the same scene in Greece but in more clean barber shops.
Have a good WE,Danos
PS really here in Greece there are a lot of temples that can everyone can see and admire.

Hi Craig
Fine idea mixing the popular elements. The scene here is really well seen and captured. The barber's profile shown twice is cool. The colors are extraordinarily nice. The textures and the worn interior ...wonderful
Cracking shot!!

Hi Craig,
An incredible composition that captures the authentic atmosphere that can be found on the streets of India, in the day to day, great as you have grasped the barber and client, surrounded by the most rustic work tools, including the original chair.
A gorgeous photo with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.
Well done. I loved it.
You have a good start to the week.
Best wishes.

Hello Craig,
You captured another colorful shaving scene. :-) I do like the reflections, and I also like the colors and textures. That chair is very interesting, too. Here 's a question: did you get a street shave yourself, or was it too unhygienic? ;-)

Hi Craig,
It seems like you had a great trip to India. The only reason draw me to this country is Taj Mahal. So far I haven't see it from your posted pictures yet.

Hello Craig
You performed an interesting essay on this basic exotic installation that warns me about the danger of getting shaved in the old style by an unknown barber!
In this case, even if I'm not a clansman, I would have asked to lower the mirror for a better close watch on the sharp blade!
Cheers.

Hello Craig,
I like very much the geometry and the quiet atmosphere of the setting and how the people challenge them with their interesting attitudes. It's a fascinating play of points of view and reflections, your note helped me realize that they are probably looking at you through the mirror, you're an invisible reflection in this composition:) Textures and colours are superb, they have a mild and consistent charm. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,
