It was built and maintained by the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited and inaugurated in 2003. The road is a dual carriageway and has breaks in the divider for U-turns. A trip along the highway takes two hours minimum to reach Mysore from Bangalore. It passes over the Cauvery (Kaveri) river and enters the Srirangpatna island through the Periyapatna Bridge.
