Photographer's Note
Paan shops are a common sight in all Indian cities and villages... Here in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, a paan-walla(paan seller) is preparing the leaves, ready to be filled , then chewed by his customers. It makes your mouth red, and provokes an intense salivation, forcing users to spit a red juice all around the place.
It will go in my Mumbai street vendors and shops theme.

Hello Laurent,
U have captured a typical Indian paan shop..with cigarettes and the man arranging the beetle leaves..It a very goof shot considering u included the old lady in the FG..even though she has nothing to do in thge frame but her presence is adding something to the shot for which it is looking good..!! Most of the paan shops are very clumsy and I wonder hoe they sit there the whole day in one position ...must be painful..!!
Regards and TFS,
Indro

It is a very curious picture. I first thought it would be about what is hanging above the man. After reading the note I did notice that the man is holding some leaves. We also see that lady with a sad expression, waiting some something or someone. So, there some different things going on here but we really do not know exactly what.
The link is very good and we can easily learn more about “paan”.
Antonio.

Hi Laurent,
A good one to add to your collection! Great that we can see the man preparing the paan. Nice details in the store its self and on the peolple. I like that they are not looking at the camera directly. An interesting daily life shot.

Ciao Laurent!!

An interesting documentary shot, Laurent. It is very similar to the thing that old people chew in Thailand. In fact the custom probably came from India. Nowadays only the very old ,in the countryside chew these here. Thais is good because i fined those red stained teeth revolting. regards kevin

bonjour laurent

Hi Laurent,
a nice shot from the local people from Bombay. And certainly a good series.
So you are in India again. I am in Bali now and I will go back to Bangkok 5th of June for short (3 or 4 days).

Interesting shot of the man preparing the paan. I've never heard of this but it seems it is quite common in India. Neither of them seem aware of you. well done

Salut Laurent,

Salut Laurent.
I like the angle you shot it and the composition very much.
They sit there very natural, they do not pose extra to be captured, it is great.

Olá Laurent, I remember well those red spittings all over the place and also these shops. Good composition and informative note (there's a cropped version in WS, but I actually like that left side and the presence of that red color). The 'dress' of the woman seems a bit too white and I would like to see one of them reacting to your camera, or giving us some action, but this way we feel a kind of an easy going atmosphere and that's nice too.

Hello laurent,
excellent the daily life with this Paan shop and the sellers. The most striking thing about this portrait is the way you have controlled the light. The colours are very soft, you've avoided over-saturating what could be a pretty intense scene.Very informative your note.

Salut Laurent,

Hello Laurent
A typical Indian pan shop, almost identical in any city! It's a good idea to include the old lady in the frame, sitting in front of the shop. Interesting to see improvisation in keeping the bucket, due to lack of space...that's Mumbai typically! Good daily life shot!

Salut Laurent
Bon week end.
