Photographer's Note
I've posted a couple of Barber photos already from India, but there's still room for more.
We are again back in Varanasi, its early in the morning with the sun just rising. As I looked around there were several men not only getting a haircut, but having their head shaved. I'm sure there's some religious element to this, but i'm not exactly aware of it.
Using my tele lens, I wanted to stand far back so I didn't bother the men, so i zoomed in as much as I could.
I quite enjoy this close encounter, it shows the strange trust we have with people. For example if I were to walk up to the man and ask to put my hand on his head like that he'd be very upset and worried - yet give a man a sharp razor blade and the title of 'barber', then suddenly there's an instant trust. Kind of funny when you think about it.

Some street photography rings a bell!! & lots to keep you interested in this one. I love this much more than your first upload due to its closeness and more intimacy between the two performers and reading notes i guess that he is doing a roaring trade! This shot also makes me cringe just looking at his head and the barber with cut throat razor in action! but the chap looks resigned to it - and that the mutual trust hoping the barber has good and steady hands. It's more or less how I visualised the shot. I really love the tones, exposure just spot on and the contrasts in colour are superb. This is an excellent photo journalism depicting just part of the everyday street life, a vivid insight into the diversity & culture has on offer. Prefer to do me shaving myself! Wonderful shot. Bravo, Congrats.

Your new fetish: barber shots. And you do it well. But I think that fella has missed a bit. Did you ever brave it and get a haircut yourself? You'd literally be taking your life into your own hands. I really love the sharpness (excuse the pun) and the rich skintones, all accentuated by the tight framing. This is a photo reminiscent of Abmdsudi. I bet he'd love this.

du hast ein sehr schφnes, interessantes Foto gemacht, das ist der Vorteil mit einen groίen Objektiv, gratuliere!
Mir hat Abu Abu Dhabi auch besser gefallen, das sehr gepflegte Grass wuchs hinter dem Museum (Eintritt frei, gratis),
auf unserer Seite durfte man nur bis zu den Knien ins Wasser, schwimmen verboten, auf der anderen Seite war der Badestrand

Je n'ai jamais vraiment osι ce genre de composition. J'ai de la difficultι ΰ entrer dans la bulle des gens surtout lors d'un moment aussi intime. Faire cela en public pour moi est incomprιhensif. Un beau moment de la vie quotidienne dans cette partie du monde.

Hello Craig,
Having your hair shaved in the temple has indeed a religious significance. What happens with the hair is usually that it is collected and sold to firms that use it for making very expensive whigs, sold all over the world. In this photo you have captured the religious connection even indirectly from the way the barber is resting his hand on the pilgrim's head. It makes me think of a priest giving somebody his blessing. So this picture is a lot more than just another shave in the street.

Hello Craig,
Besides the obvious interest and unusual outdoor activity, this is a such a well balanced shot. The figures take opposing diagonals across the frame with absolutely nothing in frame that is not useful to the composition and the meaning.
