Leh Palace is one of the major attractions in Leh, the main city in Ladakh. The palace is situated on a hill. Above the palace on the highest point of Namgyal hill stands the victory tower and the Namgyal Tsemo Gompa (Monastery). The Tower was built to commemorate Ladakh's victory over the Balti Kashmir armies in the early 16th century. The Namgyal Tsemo Gompa was built in 1430 by King Tashi Namgyal. The major attraction in the Gompa is the three-story high image of Buddha. The Gompa is in ruins. One gets a spectacular view of the Leh city from here.
