Photographer's Note
Got this frame at the ghat of river Ganges, at the morning (actually it was the time when the Sun is yet to come) of chhat puja.

Chhath, also called
Dala Chhath, is an ancient Hindu
festival dedicated to Surya, the
Hindu Sun God, Surya, also
known as Surya Shashti. The
Chhath Puja is performed in
order to thank Surya for
sustaining life on earth and to
request the granting of certain
wishes. The Sun, considered the
god of energy and of the life-
force, is worshiped during the
Chhath fesival to promote well-
being,prosperity and progress.
In Hindu mythology, Sun worship
is believed to help cure a variety
of diseases, including leprosy,
and helps ensure the longevity
and prosperity of family
members, friends, and elders.
The rituals of the festival are
rigorous and are observed over
a period of four days. They
include holy bathing, fasting and
abstaining from drinking water
(Vratta), standing in water for
long periods of time, and
offering
prashad (prayer offerings) and
aragh to the setting and rising
sun.
In this frame you can see some
devotees in the sacred river
Ganges. After the holy deep one
of them is prayering something
to the god 'Sun'. I like this
colourful frame for the
arrangement of colours. Hope

Hello Subhendu,
Thankyou so much for showing something so interesting and colourful. There is good detail such as the gold pattern on the clothes. There is rather a lot of white sky and wonder whether possibly a little crop could help to balance it. I enjoy this image a great deal. TFS.

Hello Subhendu,
A thought provoking composition of these ladies at prayer. I like the colours to be seen in the clothing and the offerings with the twinkling candles. Like Ann, I would be inclined to crop most of the sky to just above the heads.
