Great Sohrab!!! A great image, an incredible composition, a great use of light and stunning beauty of the gaze of the girl.
An image that you can see from some of the best Magnum's photographers.
I really admire this shot.
Thank you for this masterpiece,
Stefano

Wow! Beautiful light - I love the effect of the sun creeping through the gaps. Black and white was the best treatment for this. Beautifully composed.

Wow, that is sure an exceptionnal light. That Tri-X 400 is such a great film !
The composition is very good too. And the general feeling is the ambiance of the place. That ambiance is very well rendered I think, with plenty of details about the life of those people.
Really a good one : both graphic and instructive.
Thank you,
Pascal.

Hey Sohrab, great to see a new post from you. Some really strong elements here and a very good shot overall. First off, of course the beams of light are a great part of the photo, very dramatic. Secondly, I really like the gaze of the girl near the middle, right next to the big wicker basket. Actually, the pose of the mother (I am guessing) is really good too. The downsides for me would be the blown out areas top left, hard to avoid, but they are just a little too much for my tastes. I don't think there is any detail left on your neg, so I doubt you could burn it in, I guess the answer would have been a quicker shutter time and dodging on the rest of the photo in post processing. Nice shot Sohrab, great to see something new.

So good to see you posting again, Sohrab! The graphic quality of the image here is nothing short of sensational, as is the extraordinary veil caused by the filtered light.
A masterpiece...
All the best,

As I had alrady pointed out elsewhere, it is a fantastic image. I am honored to be a recipient of this one. So far as I am concerned the photo simply needs to be looked and enjoyed. I have already commented on the exceptional role that the pair of eyes play. A memorable image.

Hi Sohrab,
superb. And Im of the totally opposite mindset of Darren. I love the burnouts. Infact the light used here is great and a wonderful opportunity to push the contrasts.

Hi Sohrab,
what a wonderful use of the rays of light. The lightning is superb. I like the b+w. A strong composition with a nice focus on that woman. Like a holy figure.

Hi Sohrab,
Sometimes you don't need to be present to provide inspiration, your creations are inspiring enough. I have been a recent member on TE and this is probably your second post since I have been here. But I have gone through your gallery in the meanwhile and it has been a source of inspiration for me. Your works like howrah bridge, migration, identity have remained etched in my memory. I wish I had a fragment of your creative brilliance. I hope you are back on TE for good and would keep us enchanted with images like this.
Best Regards

Your ability to combine daily life with artistic photography is unparaller not only by TE standards, but by just about any standards, I am hoping not too long down the road I will be able to buy large format book with your photography finely printed.
Amazing light bursting through, amazing glaze of the eyes, amazing composition, and only 34 fraking points while some other photos gather three times this much and aren't a tenth as good. I am not surprised that some very talented poeple simply outgrow this site and leave it with the dust behind.
Thanks for the treat Sohrab.

Hello from Canada Sohrab,
Good to see another upload from you, how's things?
I tried to get a picture like this in Hong Kong but he light and the movement here are way more enchanting than anything I managed to find. So beautiful yet so sad to view at the same time...

Like I said before- it's just beautiful. The movement and flow of the woman's clothing, the texture of the basket, the hidden figures, the depth and darkness just create a scene that drags you in. But the rays of light filtering across the whole image makes this more than just another photograph- its something much more. You have created something special and you've done it masterfully. Yep, it's awesome.

I told to Peter (Homer x2)sometime ago you played in a different photo league ;o). I'm still convinced it is the case.
Prodigeous photo, fantastic tones in this b/w with precious details.
The woman between the 2 rays of light is not only a great timeing but God this looks like another Virgin's appreance in this graceful light. A real painting ... of light.
Thanks, Alain -

Hi Sohrab, this will be briefly commented from SaPa Vietnam (the most overrated place in VN for Photography, perhaps I'll come back to it later on...).
The beams are simply magic and the composition with that water jar in the foreground is striking, pure light carving. Lots of giggling kids photogs should take a lesson from that.
Perhaps not the best monitor I could get to look at it, but maybe you could improve the print with a bit of grade 3 burning on the right side light beams parts, so that the characters benefit from a little bit more contrast.

Well Sohrab, you make art out of an also superb documentary daily lift shot. There are a lot of elements that all together works very well. The beams of course, the women, the young girl behind that big jar as well as the kids in the corner. But also all the details that tells us some about their lifes makes this shot not just artistic but very intresting in a more compex way.
Hope everything is good with you!
Take care,
Jessica
charlescarson (60) 2006-08-12 13:22
this is pure poetry. the critical element here is not the wonderful light streaming in from outside, but the little girl's face with those penetrating eyes peaking around the large basket. the table and bowl in the lower right provide very nice balance as well. a fine, fine photograph.

Hi Sohrab
An interesting effect and capture here, with all of these rays beaming through. The picture delivers excellent impact and atmosphere. The rays are probably a touch strong in places but the shot is very dynamic. Great capture.
