Chickens and raftboats at Yangshuo, a photo from Guangxi, South

Photographer's Note

If you're not interested in going all the way in comfort to Yangdi for the Li River cruise in one of the much larger, diesel powered boats, these slow raftboats might be good for a short 5km trip up or downriver. As long as it's not raining. I still enjoyed my visit despite the drizzle and overcast skies. The larger boats leave from upstream and are double decked, quicker and more spacious & they have toilets! This part of China is far from the big industrial towns around Guangzhou, (10 hours by bus) so pollution is minimal. C'est ΰ se demander si c'est un phιnomθne naturel ou seulement la pollution qui semble recouvrir toute la Chine mais l'effet est spectaculaire. Une trθs belle animation sur les rives.

The haze shrouded peaks in the background (due to air pollution?) create a certain mood for this expansive landscape composition full of things designed to retain the viewer's attention. The image is well exposed and has very good colours and sharpness.

Hello Chris,
This is a fine shot. You managed very successfully to combine the marvellous hills with a view of the town, the river and boats and a lot of people walking across the meadow. I was here long ago and had the same kind of misty weather. There weren't so many boats around for tourists in those days so I rented a bike to see the surroundings.

Beautiful pov and I like the effect of the mist of the mood. Those mountains really intrigue me, reminds me of Bohol. Good lighting in spite of the condition with nice details. Well done, tfs.

Even with the drizzle , this landscape is absolutely fantastic . It must be wonderful when the sun is shinning and with a clear atmosphere .

I know it sounds clichι to say, but having the people in the fg REALLY does make the scale of the other subjects come to life.
rain or no rain, it still looks great because its nothing like we have here at home.
I bet the people walking around here have no idea how great this looks in a photo :)

Good evening Chris,
Action along the river shown in wide scope: The boats in diff. sizes, some are "dwellings" for local people, and town houses with modern bridge, than we see the mountains which are known for their unique countourlines and shapes.
Inspite the fog and mist, managed a marelous photo with hood clarity.

La longueur de la riviθre donne de la profondeur ΰ la composition. La prιsence des gens anime la scθne. La prise de vue permet de voir les dιtails des bateaux et des montagnes. Le ciel nuageux ne nuit pas au rendu des couleurs. Bonne soirιe.

I think the misty BG gives atmosphere and contrasts with the sharpness and colour in the FG. A fascinating place that has been very well recorded with natural looking colour and sharpness.

The fog has added a certain degree of mystique to the scenery. The slower boats would give one more chances for photography, I think you made the right choice.
