Photographer's Note
It has similar things to western Chess (do not know if your ancestor or his son), but I find it faster and more fun. Has trolleys that look like towers of chess, and horses, but instead of a king you must kill a general, and there are also some canyons that are very bloody. There is also a river in the center, some chips can not cross, and some chips have different name according to the side: what chips are for black elephants, red are for ministers.
Walking in Chinese cities is very common to see retirees playing this game in the street, surrounded by onlookers. Although it's cold on the street, there's got to soldier on, hunched for hours.

Ha, that's my kind of beard!
A great scene, good sideways shot, though I wonder if you couldn't have got any more action in here.
The man seems to be looking away from you, whereas him really being involved in the game would undoubtedly have resulted in an even better shot. Also that bit part of the onlooker isn't the best here, compsotion-wise.
How 's Xianyang? Never been there...

Hi Pablo
Wandering in your gallery, I discover this old post which is not criticised a lot, though it is really eye catching by the perspective of the board and the nice typical face of the player. The red letters destroy a little bit your picture
Cheers
