China is a great country for bridges. There are the famous wind-and-rain bridges of the Dong people in Guizhou, and if you’re willing to travel off the beaten track, another real treat for bridge lovers is Taishun county in the deep south of Zhejiang.
This bridge is called Wenxing bridge. It is near the village of Xiaocun, says my map. But I’m not really sure about that, as ‘xiao cun’ just means ‘little village'… and I guess that can be said of A LOT of places in China!
Being built in 1957, Wenxing bridge actually is one of the most recent covered bridges of the Taishun area. It’s in the middle of rice fields, there’s a little house at the foot of the bridge, on the other side, not visible in this picture.

The comfy direct bus took us back from Taishun to Shanghai in a mere 9 hours or so. This is now possible thanks to ultrashiny new Hangzhou Bay Bridge, a real technological superfeat, the longest bridge in the world, time-saving o yes...but it didn't half move me as much as little Wenxing bridge did.

Looks much better or more creative than some covered bridges elsewhere. I like scene such as this: rural, bucolic with the signature green of rice field. As photo also paints a thousand words, the photographer's words actually count for much and definitive.
