Photographer's Note

This is Tuol Sleng Prison in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Also known as S-21, during Pol Pot's reign of insanity it was a detention centre, that also doubled as a place of torture and execution. No-one left alive, except those that were being taken out of town to the mass graves in the 'killing fields'. This building was a school before the Khmer Rouge uprising. As a part of Pot's philosophy, all forms of education were to eliminated (as were educated people. This was very broadly enforced, simply wearing glasses was enough to be executed), therefore this school was deemed to be much more useful as a prison. It is a very sad place, full of reminders of those who spent their last days inside it's tiny makeshift cells. As you walk around you see many exhibits documenting the cruelty practised daily inside the compound, and the very last thing you see is a bronzed bust of Pol Pot, gazing metallicly through you.

In PS:

*Slight rotation to bring everything square.
*Slight crop to top and RH side to trim roof and another fragment of wall.
*Adjusted contrast in curves menu, using shadow/mid/highlights.
*Used burn shadow tool to make cracks and texture stand out more on the wall.
*Resized for TE and sharpened using USM.

If any of the details I've given are wrong, please let me know.
