Photographer's Note
Early in the morning, I boarded a riverboat in Battambang and began the long trip to Siem Reap. It would be one of the most amazing days of my life.
In the dry season, the river is extremely low, sometimes only 2-3 feet deep. Even flat-bottom boats sometimes need to be pushed over mud banks.
This part of Cambodia is totally undeveloped. I saw no signs of civilization or infrastructure from the river. The people living along the river looked to be surviving on the barest of essentials, including fishing in the early morning for small catches from the polluted water.
Along the river, there were numerous signs of the optimism and ingenuity of human beings. But there was also filth, toil and isolation. I feel like this image captures the latter.

Hey Sam. Such a wonderful moment you've captured here...the light is so warm it really makes the image jump out at you. The man on the boat makes for a nice focal point. The misty atmosphere just adds a touch more quality as well. Good work.

Great shot. Worth far more than three lousy smileys. As far as the concept of Tek Earth goes, this shot tells me far more about Cambodia than some that seem to score ridiculous high points.

Hi Sam. I love the ambiance you have captured in this river scene. The boat and man balance the jungle. Although the sky is a bit white, as i get very often, it does not detract. Good presentation. Murray.
