Photographer's Note

We had more than a little difficulty getting to the Minaret of Jam and didn't think we would make it. Eventually we did but not just yet.

On the day we were supposed to arrive we broke down climbing a mountain pass. The suspension of the minibus had snapped.

We all piled out while the driver tried to fix it. He eventually managed to get the vehicle moving but all it could do was to limp on to the next village without passengers. Fortunately another bus came along and the ladies managed to squeeze themselves aboard but the three guys had to walk.

We climbed up to the top of the pass and down to the tiny village on the other side. It took about two hours in the baking heat and we were exhausted when we arrived. The bus couldn't be fixed here so we had to stay the night.

But it wasn't all bad news. This was one of the prettiest places we had visited, with green pastures and multi-coloured hills. There was also a semi-nomadic camp on the edge of the village. If you have to stop somewhere unexpectedly, it might as well be a place with a lot of photo opportunities!
