Photographer's Note
ENGLISH: This of course is the Sydney Harbour Bridge viewed from one of the skyscrapers in The Rocks area. I'd love to return to this location in better weather and get a Blue Hour shot. But with the rain set in here at the moment, there doesn't seem much chance of that. To the far left of the Bridge you can see Luna Park.
This was taken through a double-plate glass window using a ledge to balance rather than a tripod.

Hello Dear Lisa
Its not often that we see such a scene from the site of the famous Harbour bridge. The rain is palpable in the top part of the shot where the top of the ridge seems to have disappeared in the mist & cloud. The streaks of tail lights indicates the long exposure. It must have been prety dark as even witha 30 sec exposure, the buildings in the FG are still on the darkish side.
I appreciate this view, because it's nor common & also because its also an easy one to capture
Best Regards

Hi Lisa, This scene brings back memories, used to live in Greenwich, you have captured this bridge in all its glory despite the rain, dark, and through double glass. Well done, great moody shot, Cheers Iain.

Hello Lisa,
Join the club, been raining on and off here for the last few days and set to continue - most annoying as we are going to Le Mans for a couple of nights tomorrow! Such is life. This is a very successful composition despite the bad weather. I like the way the roadway sweeps in from the left hand corner giving the image a good sense of dynamism. Well exposed with excellent sharpness.

Hi Lisa - I like this, so often we see this iconic landmark under 'favourable conditions', it's great to see another reality. Compositionally the shot is strong with the road leading nicely to the mist shrouded bridge. Many would have been disappointed not to get the blue hour shot and cried into the wine, not you, you have made more than the best of a bad situation. Take care Rosemary

Hi Lisa
You certainly found a great new POV with this shot and the long exposure without a tripod is great. Not bad through glass either. I actually like the top of the bridge in mist, great effect.

Ottima composizione e immagine di grande impatto e atmosfera drammatica! mi piace molto come la scia bianca di luce guida l'occhio verso il bel ponte e contrasta col buio intorno.
Possiede una sua armonia e una forte espressivitΰ.
Complimenti, molto bella!

Hi Lisa
Just terrific how the low hanging clouds top off the top of the bridge. Lots of great lighs/details below & great long exposure effect on the car lights on the bridge.
A very good shot. Thanks for sharing it.
Enjoy.

Hi Lisa
atmospheric shot of this landmark. Clear and sharp with such striking points of light giving the image impact. Must get myself one of these ledges! I am so useless at night shots but it is something that I want to master. This is brilliant!
Have a good day - Brian.

Hi Lisa,
POV from high point over the bridge is most impressive, seeing the cloud hang on it's top and town light bellow give a sense about the hight where taken.
Strechs of cars headlight on right, reds on left in an askew angel is scaling and add depth to the fine image.
Good night,
Ike

I wish to go to Sydney one day and take the tour on that superb bridge to look at the city from that vantage point of view, but not on a rainy day like this. We can see the rainy clouds on tp of the bridge.
Have a nice day

Hi Lisa
Good aperture control here which I've only recently discovered on my Nikon D90. I see you've used a high fstop to get stars & light trails. Sometimes it is possible to get amazing shots with reflections in the wet streets in rainy weather so it's not always bad. But agreed a blue hour shot would be interesting. I've found it is just about impossible to get more than a few good shots at the one location before it goes pitch black Blue "Hour" is a bit of a misnomer, when it's more like 10 minutes! Tfs!

Ciao Lisa,
Blue hour or not, this is still a stunning photograph. And all the more impressive considering that it has been taken through a double glazed plate glass window. You should make no apologies whatsoever for this one!
Everything about this picture impresses: the lighting, the perfect exposure, the colours and the exquisite detail and sharpness throughout. The composition is superb also, the streaks of lights from the bridge traffic passing perfectly across the frame and leading the eye directly to the main span of the bridge.
I presume that the slightly paler area at the top of the picture is due to low cloud enveloping the apex of the bridge. Some less charitable critiquers might suggest that it is due to extraneous light getting in from the plate glass window but a thought like that never crossed my mind. Honestly, M' Lady.
Fabulous!
Un abbraccio,
John.

Hey Lisa
You know what i'm going to say...damn you, damn you to hell!
If i ever make it to this fine city, i'll want a shot from this same POV.
I absolutely love the perspective, with the 3 columns on the bridge, the city lights, and of course the trailing car lights too.
fog, rain...what ever the case may be, its the POV that makes this one great. Wait until Tosca and I get there, THEN you can take a blue hour shot of this! haha
have a great one

Ma chθre Lisa-san,
I take my hat off for your effort to take this special view for us. The 30-second exposure reveals a beautiful view of your neighbourhood even under rainy weather. The traffic on the bridge is particularly impressive. I am not a very big fan of cars in general, but here they contribute to create a view that is engaging. I wonder often why you take photos. Could your photographic activities exist without TE? I wonder about this. I ask the same question about myself. Anyway, the presented view is very attractive; I like the small lights in the houses where people are contributing their share to this particular instance. I am glad to know that you are not under a bridge at night like before. Thank you for this beautiful night view.
I hope that you are spending a very pleasant day.
With my very best wishes, Lisa-san
Nobu.

Good Morning Lisa,
The darkness and the mist so perfectly capture the mood; I'm sure a slow shutter speed would have been essential.
I love how you have positioned the road bridge emerging from the bottom l/h corner, leading the viewer to the strongly positioned arch of the bridge. Good use of thirds and excellent sharpness make this a fine shot.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Lisa,
Nice to follow your serie of photos on this bridge and your trials to find new point of view. You could even now create a dedicated theme for this bridge.
Here I like the long lighted lines from the carlights and the clouds stitching on the top of the bridge.
For the exposure setting I am not so much convinced: a bit too dark. If one day you have the possibility to do the same more towards blue hours, I think it could be worth as the point of view is already good.
Yves.

Hello Lisa,
Nice nocturnal capture with good light management and good compo.
The bow of the bridge creates nice graphism.
And your alternative tripod is just joyfull !
In the past I carried allways a thin rope of about 1.5-2 m with me. Wherever I needen a tripod (and of course didn't have it with me !) I bound it around the camera, and put my foot on the other end of the rope. Now you need only stretch the rope and keep the camera on eyelevel ! Absolutely proofed and works perfect !
TFS and have a nice weekend

hi lisa,
what a magic viewpoint you're got to see the city from and share with the rest of us. the darkness doesn't prevent us getting an idea of the beauty of the place, as the lights scattered throughout the picture are themselves quite beautiful, especially the lines of light from the traffic. i imagine this is magnificant on a bright sunny day. we've got our first snow of winter here this week.
have a good weekend,

Ciao cara Diavolina,
Ciao, buona settimana!

Hi Lisa
Excellent effect by the streak of lights on the bridge with lovely sparkles on the fairyland. But I think the weather you have experienced suits this rather moody atmosphere created and yet you managed to retain a lot of detail and colour in your shot and the haze is lovely addition against dark nite sky. Excellent effort under this circumstances but with an appealing shot no doubt. Have a nice day, Cheers!

Ciao Cara Lisa, Does it rain in Sydney? From what our friend Pietro said I thought the sun was always shinning on Sydney, even at bloody night ;) maybe he was figuratively speaking. Nice moody shot & well done, they were very obliging, let you used their makeshift tripod & cleaned the windows, fantastic POV, nice light streaks, caused by the slow shutter speed, headlights & the red taillights. I also think a blue hour shot would like fantastic, next time maybe.
Take care

Ciao Lisa,
wow this was taken through a window. The quality is amazing.
Most of all fantastic composition with the car trails making a nice diagonal here. The bridge looks great from this original POV.
I am sure the blue hour would probably show more details but I have to admit that the black sky photos also offer a lot of opportunities. Here the darkness with a bit of fog introduced an interesting atmosphere.
Excellent work,

This was through a window?? Wow, you have done well, anytime I try this, I always end up with own big head staring back at me from the middle. ITs a magical image, and I love how the bridge is clouded out like that in the rain. I love the rain (I kind of have to, being in Ireland), and its effects like this that remind me why
Best wishes
