My last visit to Ghent, a totally new element, for take of this picture, a new but provisional bridge, about The Lys on 4 m above the water mirror.
It's not difficult for make a picture on the middle of the bridge with a lovely view on the bridge and buildings to the right side,

St Michael's Bridge
History:
The St Michael's Bridge is a stone arch bridge in the center of the Belgian city of Ghent. The bridge crosses the Lys, on the south side of the Graslei and the Korenlei. The present monumental bridge was built in the period 1905-1909, after the establishment of the station building. Both the St Michael's Bridge and the Old Post Office are creations of architect Louis Cloquet. Previously, there was a flat swing. The bridge is part of the street St Michael slope. From the bridge has one northbound visibility on the Grass and Korenlei, and in the distance the Counts. Eastbound bridge shows the typical view of the three towers of Ghent: St. Nicholas Church, the Belfry of Ghent and Saint Bavo Cathedral. On the southwest side is the church of Saint Michael. The bridge was protected in 1983 as a monument

Hello John,
You present us with a sweeping perspective along the canal from the lovely city of Ghent. The passing boat is well placed and helps give the scene depth. Fascinating contrast in architectural style between the foreground building and the church, yet both have their attractions. Pleasing animated atmosphere. I like the low lighting and understated tones. The image has excellent clarity as always.

Hello John,
It is quite easy to imagine this as a painting in a museum. Most details don't seem to have changed much for hundreds of years, except that the boat is modern and people don't wear 17th century clothes. I like the composition showing a lot of human presence, and the dark clouds and subdued colours are very attractive.

Dag John,
Een nieuwe brug over de Leie? Nog niet gezien. Ik vroeg me al af of je boven het water kon zweven.
Dat opent inderdaad een nieuw perspectief in het stadscentrum.
De lucht was vrij somber en het kerkgebouw op zich al redelijk donker heb je toch klaar en duidelijk met de details weten weer te geven.
Een zeer levendig en sfeervol beeld.

Wow John, this is a beautiful composition, seems like an old fashioned postcard, or even could be a fine painting. Super exposure and mood of the relaxed scene brings a wonderful feeling upon my imagination. Like the contrast in architecture and in colour between the modern building in the foreground and the old cathedral in the background.

Hi John,

The length of the canal is giving depth to the composition. You have capture well the action of the tour boat moving on the canal. The point of view is showing the details of the bridge, of the church and of the building. It is clear and sharp.

i've always enjoyed your city shots from Ghent, and here we have another one.

the key focal point for me here has to be the wide arch on the left under the bridge span.

the blue/white building on the right is a strong subject too, especially with that colour.

Goedemorgen John,
Deze nieuwe brug biedt inderdaad een mooie fotomogelijkheid. Het geeft een mooi zicht op de kade en de oudere brug met de kerk op de achtergrond. The rondvaartboot is een prima extraatje op de voorgrond.

I like the order in your photo. You managed well to keep all the components as they should be. Boat is close enough to see the details, bridge is an important element but it's not a "veil" for other touristic atractions. I feel comfortable while watching.
