Photographer's Note
Yet another picture from our TE meeting in Cumbria in June, this time from the very first place to which we were directed by Ann who, fortunately for us all, was quite familiar with the area around Keswick.
Ashness Bridge is a quaint old stone bridge and lies on the single-track road from the Borrowdale road (B5289) to Watendlath. If you look at this map, you can drag the little yellow man down to the red cross on the road then pan around and "drive" across the bridge.
Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE9.

Hello John ,
What a lovely place for a pic nic ! The superb little stoned bridge is the strongest element of this idyllic composition . But i like a lot the rocky bed stream in the FG , and the red door as another focal point at right .

I love this photograph,it reminds me of my honeymoon which we spent in that area 38 years ago.Think the only thing that has changed is the colour of the paint on the shutters.Lovely shot John.

Hi John
I love this picture, probably because it could have been taken here in glorious Devon! The P.O.V.is great and the green colours so true. But the bridge is so perfect and with just a trickle of water it is so `Devon`( not so just at the moment,as everywhere is saturated with the heavy rains!)Love the stone built shed with the red door.
Best Wishes Gladys

Hello John - A touch of the Constable here with the little red splash! A lovely composition so typical of the Cumbrian scenery and a bridge built, I suspect, for horses and donkeys and hand carts. In this case, I think the shot may be a tad overexposed but without the RAW file difficult to see. The sky looks a little blown, filter? Still a lovely shot though! Take care and warm regards Rosemary

Hi John, What a quaint quintessential( had to look that one up) English landscape photo, love the light and especially the play of shadows on the wee wall to the right under the trees. Super colours and management, you have captured all the essence of a Cumbrian scene, see you were up and about early too, Cheers Iain.

Hi John,
This is a very beautiful view, with a lush green surrounding and a tiny red spot on the little house too. I enjoy the Google view too although I get quite a different impression of both the surrounding landscape and the little house. There I see the typical bare hills, no trees at all along the impressive slopes. When you "drive" closer to the little house, you get an impression that the window shutter is yellow. But it might have been painted recently... Still a very beautiful picture and surrounding landscape.
Kind regards
Gunnar

Hello John
Love this shot! It is a well photographed place but I just love the subtle light and the colours here. It is like a painting and should be hanging on a wall in one of the little Lakeland cottages. Exceptional a real gem of a shot!!!
Have a great weekend - regards Brian.

Hello John,
the first thing that caught my eye was the exceptional sharpness in this fine picture postcard shot, very impressive.
With the river winding nicely through the frame the composition works well, and of course that splash of red right where it matters.A proper job!
Jig saw manufacturers I`m sure would lap this up.
Have a nice week end,
Les.

Hi John.
One rarely sees a shot which combines elegant composition with such an abundance of detail; it has the look of an Engish scene which could have been conjured up in my mind in childhood while reading a certain kind of very English book, probably published in the first half or middle of the 20th century. Maybe 'The Thirty Nine Steps' or some such. The placement of the bridge and the touch of redon the hut's door are very effective. My only gripe would be that the sky is just a little pale, but in reality it is probably closer to how things were than most of our polarised skies here on TE. I absolutely loved the map ref, and did succeed in driving over the bridge! I've made a link to that and tried it out on a few places. You just don't get the ground level views for most rural Australian places. But who cares, I'm in Toulouse at the moment and having a break from the Summer heat.

Andrew

Fantastic image here John..
Its like one of the old masters oil paintings
Classic composition colours and everything.
It has a softness to it which i find appealing.
The softness is not the focus its just something about the image thats soft and comfy very welcoming as if nothing bad or 20th century every happens there none of that hard harsh life we live in now. Maybe an impression from days gone by.
Dont know quite what it is but you have bottled it here in abundance. Superb!!! Love it
This is what cameras were made to do

Ciao Giovanni
These old stone bridges are just magnificent aren't they? Your photo looks like something right out of a fairytale, I'm imagining fairies jumping right out of that burn. The details of the bridge are beautifully captured, there must be something in the blood about bridge-building but I just find this fascinating. And you've positioned it perfectly within the frame to the left, with the burn leading the eye off to the right foreground. Good management of light conditions that do not look ideal too.
Thanks for sharing, enjoy your weekend

Hello John,
Ashness Bridge is one of The iconic images of the Lake District. It is probably so 'seen' as it is within easy walking distance of Keswick.
You have chosen a good pov to capture its beauty, using the cobbled stream-bed as a good lead from the corner. The extended wall from the bridge makes a second lead to the disceet red sign.
A really lovely advert for the beauty of this area.
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hi John,
This is a lovely photo with a great composition. All elements for a fantastic shot are there. However! I do not think the light has been with you, it is a bit flat. Considering the place, if I were you I would wait for anohter day when the sky has more drama and it is early in the morning or late at night and be back there for an award winning shot.(If I could!)

Hello John,
What an incredibly idyllic view, and what a perfect place you found for this shot. A very well balanced composition. The bare rocks along the stream start from the lower right corner, go up towards the left and turn right after the pretty bridge, which is balanced by the glimpse of the red cottage. Trees frame the composition very nicely on both sides. This is really beautiful.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John,
Wonderfull capture of this nice landscape in Keswick. Very good pov and good layout.
The red color on the old barn at right is like a single poppie in a green field.
TFS and have a nice evening.

Hello John,
Happy memories. Although this bridge is well photographed no two look the same. A lovely touch of red on the barn. Your POV was great - probably standing on a boulder? A very typical Lake District scene but because we were early no tourists in view!
Best wishes, Ann

Hi John
I can see why you wanted to meet up in this location for the TE meeting. There is certainly a picturesque type of quality here. Something similar to what we'd see from a childrends storybook.
looking at this, I'm also visualizing the scene during sunrise or sunset, that'd be nice too.
as mentioned, its the charm and peaceful nature of the scene that captivates and holds the viewers attention.
lovely shot
cheers

Hello John
Lovely Lakeland picture. A soft, even romantic colour palette, in which that bit of red paint really stands out. Good framing too, though I wonder if the bridge might have been moved just a bit more away from the edge of the frame.
Maybe I ought to make it a new year's resolution to visit the lakes again some time this year. It's been a long time since I was up there.
Best wishes to you and yours.
Benny

Hi John,
emka has showed me her photo of Ashness Bridge and I was curious to follow your gallery to see if you have a picture of it as well...
You have selected the opposite POV. Beautiful composition. I feel Like I need to return to this place one more time, maybe I will take my family there for a day trip.
Lovely off centre composition, pleasant sky in this direction.
5 years ago I have lived in Ireland at that time.
Excellent work,
M
