Photographer's Note
You know, when travelling, you rapidly get used to seeing the hords of tourists coming down of their bus and invading the front of landmarks while you're trying to take your shot while the light is good...all 80 of them, one after another they take a picture of the landmark, then stand in front of it while their fellow tourist take a picture of them. They hustle, they're loud, they stink, they follow the guide holding a flag at the end of his umbrella...You know them, you know what I mean.
However, when the bus contains 8-9 young monks, coming up with their cell phones and digital camera. They come with their usual calm behavior, serenity...you get what I mean. Well, then, it is MUCH different! It's so weird to see them being curious, take pics of one another with their cell phones, cameras, smiling...they almost looked excited! It was a special moment believe me!
Well, I would not let the occasion pass without taking a quick pic...just before another group of tourists came up and all went for a picture with the group of monks, annoying the monks, the other tourists, and maybe even Buddha...who knows?
Have a good day folks,
Marc

Hi Marc. Your picture is amazing. It would be nice if focus would be on the boy, and the temple reflection in water. I would really want to visit this place as i think it is the mos beautiful place in the world.
Best regards...

Bonjour Marc.
This is an excellent photograph when it comes to travel photography. I'm sure this one could reach far in competitions. I guess that pretty much gives you a clue, and yes, I love it! It's full of emotions, colors, info and impact. And thanks for sharing the story behind.

Salut Marc,

On this kind of "'cliche'';]] places its very hard to make something special Marc, well i think youve done a pretty interesting job here,I really like the depth and the composition, the soft angkor temples in the BG
are still getting the attention they deserve.....

Bonsoir Marc
Bien vu
Bien amicalement

Hi Marc!
Angkor is always a wonderful place but you got something different here! I like the foreground and the way you put the focus on their heads, leaving Angkor in the blurred background. The soft light and colours are great! I guess I even prefer this one!

Hi Marc!
Indeed - I know what you feel like regarding the mass of tourists wanting to take a picture of these 'exotic places.' To their credit - at least they have had the incredible willingness to get off the couch and stop being ignorant about the world.
I find your contrast between the photography of the tourists and the monks very interesting! Excellent observation - perhaps it's the idea of time and the rate of its flow that it entirely different. To the tourist, time is insufficient - they need to tell their friends they went everywhere. To the monks - time is a dimension to explore, allowing them to be naturally curious and inspirationally tranquil.
Now to the photo! The composition is without question excellent - the monk standing in the foreground and the distance provide a depth to the photograph. However - I'm not too sure about the DOF here. I wish the background were in focus - especially since the elements are placed separately in the frame. Also, the subject seems to be the scene more than the back of the monk's head. Of course - there is the trade-off with shutter speed, and with low light and moving subjects, a smudged photograph is worse than a narrow DOF. Great reflection though!
Cheers,
Biswaroop

Marc you did well in framing these heads into the frame. Nice back of the head captured details.

Le Scientifique!
Marc the Man, comment vas-tu!
More to come?

Mes salutations..Michel

Hey Marc
Jeez I miss you and your photos here on TE and if you ever do check your page! this is just to let you know. What a great note, to share a great moment and an origin, and beautifully realised photo. The colours are lovely and rich, the light is exquisite, your POV makes it look as you're just happily hanging out with the monks and the reflections in the background are the icing on the cake.
I hope you're well, take care
Lisa

Hello Marc,
You shows here perfect the different system for focus between the two pictures.
Your second picture is very nice through the completely focus.
But your first picture has more the value as artwork.
I love these nice picture this cares for depth and perspective.
Colours and sharpness be pleasant to look at.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,
John.

Ciao Marc

The shot works well, all the heads in harmony with the trees behind. Intelligent and different from the usual I see from this place.
