Photographer's Note

Angkor is the foremost national symbol in Cambodia and is even present in its national flag. That’s why the temple becomes a sort of pilgrimage center during national holidays.

Angkor served as the seat of the Khmer Empire, which flourished from approximately the 9th to 13th centuries. The word Angkor is derived from the Sanskrit nagara, meaning "city".

Angkor Wat (“city temple”), is a Hindu temple complex at Angkor, built for the king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple in his capital city. The best-preserved temple at the site, Angkor Wat is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation — first Hindu, dedicated to the God Vishnu, then Buddhist. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of the Khmer architecture.

This smiling girl and her family were among the many visitors of Angkor Wat during a national holiday. Since I don't know her name I called her Lara Croft, inspired by the movie's leading actress Angelina Jolie who happened to have adopted a child in Cambodia.

Cropped, increased sharpness.
