Photographer's Note
years ago there was Cairo-Khartoum rail route. but when the Egiptian goverment built Aswan High Dam some things have changed. there are no track between Aswan and Wadi Halfa in Sudan. the south part ends in desert sands.

...there's a track ...just not a very good one by western standards. Nine days from Wadi Halfa to Khartoum. You see some wonderful sights though and I hate to see the tarmac appearing. Better for the people that live there though.
Nice shot. Good note.

Hello Michal
This is a very clear and well composed photo showing the scene exactly as it is - as you say the end of the line. I was initially attracted to this photo because more than 30 years ago we travelled by train from Khartoum to Wadi Halfa and from there we caught a barge (which was attached to several other boats) for the journey to Aswan. My main recollections of Wadi Halfa are of Yellow Fever vaccinations - one needle was used on all people who had not been vaccinated - thankfully we had. Thank you for jogging my memory, Marlene
