Photographer's Note
In a previous era huge tracts of commercially productive agricultural land were vacated and ended up under subsistence farming that produces nothing for the market. The lesson has not been learnt. Instead of remedying the situation, in the current regime greedy eyes are on more productive land that will go the same way. This is not the final destination, it is just an instant down the road.....The panels are still coming off.

Hello Neels - A sad story and a poignant image to illustrate it. Someone lives here and despite the decrepitude is concerned about keeping clean and holding up their head. A powerful shot. Well done. Have a good weekend and take care. Rosemary

Hello Neels,
Excelent perspective to show a hut almost falling apart - we, with our human-nature's normally like to see modern stuff and nice things - but there are places on our little planet that has something else to show us...
Enjoy your weekend,
Ike

A fine piece of social commentary, that is a hallmark of your posts.
They say money is the root of all evil, well envy can't be far behind. Over here, we wrap up such unpleasantness in the human rights argument, so many people are quick to claim their rights, totally ignoring the counterpoint of responsbility. And sadly we are ALL the worse as a consequence.
TE working at its best - thanks for that...

Goeie mτre.

Goede foto Nels, bedankt.
Groeten uit Vlaams Belgiλ
John.

Hi Neels
Powerful image that tells a story and excellent reportage. I like the effect you have created for It does look like it's from another era, poverty is everywhere. A well captured, and thoughtful piece of photo journalism of current situation, the difference in socio economic standing but the reality of life is there. The photo shows exactly what you want it to show, I particularly like your composition providing a much more visually interesting focus straight onto the main interest. Good muted tones and presentation with so much detail, those faded colours are really nice suitably coveying the message and atmosphere. Fabulous reportage style shot, Neels, Great work. Congrats.
Best regards

Hi Neels,
Very good picture from the technical point of view, but a sad picture, the fate of these subsistence farmers. the house is a good example of this, your note does not indicate better times for these people.
Good management of natural light and a very nice color.
Best regards.

Hello Neels,
Thanks for showing us this piece of South Africa that most will never see. The shabby building provides some shelter but for how long we wonder. The line of colourful washing drying in the sun is typical of houses in South Africa and shows their pride in keeping clean despite dreadful conditions. A very well composed picture and TFS.

Hi Neels,
with this photo you show us a sad reality in the agricultural world of your country, with this humble and poor farm constructed with panels and the clothes drying in the exterior.
It is an image that denounces a situation and a wrong politics, in a photojournalistic very interesting work.
A good work, in the real spirit of TE.

Hi Neels
The house may have known better days, nevertheless it still is used and the people living there probably appreciate it!
Human presence is only suggested, by the hanging clothes, which gives a special atmosphere to the scene.
Greetings
Laurent
