Photographer's Note
Another shot from the game reserve. On this day we were lucky enough to see these Giraffes. They are (if I remember correctly) South Africa Giraffes and on this day had been gradually munching their way through the trees.
The species name camelopardalis (camelopard) is derived from its early Roman name, where it was described as having characteristics of both a camel and a leopard. The English word camelopard first appeared in the 14th century, and survived in common usage well into the 19th century.
the modern English name of giraffe, is thought to come from the Arabic ziraafa meaning tall.
The image has just been resized in Picassa and possibly cropped slightly, I don't recall. Oh, and it was shot from a resting position on the door of an old creaky Land Rover.
