Photographer's Note
Marrakech Rouge
Marrakech is often called the red city. Actually the dominant colour of the city walls and most buildings should be described as pink or even salmon pink.
When you leave the main streets of the medina –as we did here - a very rich spectre of colours can be enjoyed - everything between red and ochre.
The red/pink – colouring of Marrakech comes from the age old use of the reddish clay and lime mixture called "tabia” for the walls of buildings and city walls. Much later, after the introduction of modern building techniques the city of Marrakech under French colonial rule stepped in and made the application of red/pink paint or mortar on outside walls of new buildings in the medina mandatory. These new city regulation also forbade the building of structures ‘hihger then a palm tree’. The Moroccan government didn't change this, so the traditional urban structure and exterior of Marrakech was preserved.
The PCS3 work flow: I altered the saturation, contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, using different layers, enhanced the edges, USM-ed, added a frame and resized and did a gentle USM (1,0px, 28%) again.

I thought this is abstract.. the window at the center looks like an eye from the father view. I hope i'm not the only one who recognize it.. accidental abstract? well done my friend.

Hallo Bert,

Zeer mooi fotowerk Bert.
Bedankt.
Prettig weekend, Vlaanderen onder een dik wolkendek met 10.4°C

Bonjour Bert,
La "Pιriode Rouge" de Bertolucci, dιjΰ? :o)
Another face of Marrakech, not that smooth or rich like the Blue one, but very well achieved and impressive indeed!

Hello Bert,
After the blue period, the magenta one? I just love all this monochrome!
I would not like to have such electric cables home... It seems to be quite unsafe!
have a great day!

Quite a misterious alley Bert, a good set for a movie scene. I like the colors, the shadows, the old mood of it. In this photo many people use to ask for some human been walking around, but in this case I would deeply disagree, I love this emptyness.

Hi Bert,
I love the reddish colours of this shot and I really agree that this is salmon pink. It is a simplistic and beautiful shot and in my eyes a very typical alley in North Africa. I am glad to hear that the Moroccan government makes efforts to preserve the urban structure. TFS and have a fine weekend!
Cheers,
Ulf

hello Bert,
I have the best memories from our trip to Morocco in 2006, and this photo brings them all back - fantastic colours, captivating patterns and beautiful textures. I really like how deep this photo feels with the layers and layers of arches and buildings on top of one another. excellent work in capturing the textures, they feel so 3D I feel tempted to touch the screen to check them :) excellent photo, my compliments.
with kind regards,
Kristine

It really looks as if you got into the heart of the old town with all the tiny alleys. It's amazing there are no people. The succession of arches draw the eye right into the frame.
Now you have Marrakech Bleu et Rouge. Next will have to be Marrakech Vert (RGB) :D
Good work

Hello Izzet, my friend, I hope you are doing well. This picture is really red ... ehm, beautiful :-). You chose a fine shooting angle to get some perspective depth and to show the alignment and details of the characteristic architecture. Good lighting and textural detail, I am just a little bit missing the characteristic human element that is present in most of your photos. Greetings from Nagasaki.

Hi Bert,
Inderdaad een prachtige variatie aan rood-roze tinten op de muren en poorten langs dit kleine steegje. De lichtval is ook mooi en goed gemanaged. Uitstekende impressie van de rode stad!
Groeten,

Hallo Bert,
The beautiful colours of Marrakech. Dit rijke rode palet is fantastisch en zal menig schilder inspireren tot een compositie in rood, rood en rood.
