Photographer's Note
The Dedza province houses one of the 2 UNESCO world heritage sites in Malawi. In the Chongoni Rock Art Area contains hundreds of ancient rock paintings. The picture was taken in a village below the Namzeze rock art site. The panel is quite remote and only accessible by quite a long walk. Before we visited the paintings we went first to the closest village in order to see, what the people here think and still know about the paintings and their origins. The oldest woman and the oldest man of the village were caught and we could ask questings about the importance of the paintings and what they know about their purpose etc. .
All an all it was a great experience!
See my workshop photo to see some of the ancient paintings at Namzeze Rock Art Panel.
