Photographer's Note
from a Maasai village.
mother of seven is holding her sixth.
Note: I changed the title after gravatar's critique. Previous one was "naked". Not sure about the critiques though. A mother is holding her kid. And this is an African tribal village. What is the problem?
All this reminds me the below quote:
"There are no foreign lands. It is the traveller only who is foreign."
-R. L. Stevenson.
Note 2: jsbedard changed his critique from "tasteless" to "not artistic" after the first note.

I have to disagree with jsbedard, I don't think there is any bad taste here.
Naked children's bottoms are a reality of life some parts of the world. This is a good capture.

I disagree with jsbedard as well, it is a tasteful artistic composition. Might have been more appropriate on Trek Lens, though it was taken while travelling. Title could use some work though. Still, I give it the thumbs up.

Nice funny one! Good DOF in this picture, and also a different scene from what's usually seen in TE. That necklace (waist-lace??) is interesting, is it very common?
Thanks for cheering me up, Lyneka.
Daniel
btw, I like how you use sepia in your photos

Hi Lyneka,
Very nice daily life shot with interesting subject. Excellent composition in gentle colours. Very well framed.

Hi Lyn,
Its not tasteless. It is artistic, but I do think you might be able to present this slightly better. I think the straight-forward capture looks a little stiff to me. I am really drawn to the mother's hands, the belly chain and of course the bottom. Saying this, I still like what you have shown. What I think lets the image downa little is the sepia. I think this would look very nice in a simple black and white, as it is not too sharp. It does not matter too much though, as this image is subtly beautiful and shows the relationship between a mother and her partially naked child. I think this concept is not understood by all whom see it. I like the idea very much - and yes, its artistic.
Maybe this is helpful... maybe not. http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Asia/India/photo514049.htm

Hi Lyn, I think it's the crop that invites the controversy. I'd have probably gone for a square format, and included a couple of heads, but this works too, and a little controversy never hurt a good photo. I like the sepia in this shot, the shot is very clear, and it leaves me with questions (which is a good thing), such as: what are the circumstances behind the shot, what do the beads signify if anything etc.??
Thanks, John

A pleasant natural scene, why not, I suggest it maybe as replacing title after your less pleasant experience of formal, the 'no comments' a bit empty, people almost could reply with :):):) 'no comments and still seeing the funny tight crop on this most human scene even including someone else leg in OOF to indicate the environment. The sepia is a personal choice maybe to make it a bit more discreet.

I don't see anything wrong with this. Very natural in many corners of the world. A good picture.
