Photographer's Note
The medieval walled city of Harar has six gates. The gate at the top of this image is usually called Asedin Gate, although Arabic script on it names it Bab AlNasr, the victory gate. It is about 400 years old. The street leading up to it within the walls is a busy thoroughfare used as a market, as you see. There is also a busy market on the street outside the gate.

Hello Steve,
I toyed with the idea of travelling from southern Egypt to Khartoum in Sudan, but in the end I went back to Luxor, caught a flight to Sharm El Sheikh, and travelled into Israel and Jordan instead. The horn of Africa looks like a fascinating area to explore. Tfs!

Life & light are key words that describe this pic so effectively! Amazing street photo, exotic and bustling with activity. Perfect timing to capture some rims of light on those bright-coloured clothing in just the right place. The lovely soft light provides such great atmosphere, but I think you have really captured the soul and spirit of this place successfully.....

Hello Steve,
I no longer feel a great urge to travel to such places, but photos like this remind me of the excitement I used to feel in crowded market streets so different from anything found at home. It's a wonderful chaos which almost makes me overlook the famous gate.

Superb street image of the street life in Harar. The colourful crowed, backlit, with dust floating in the air. The medieval gate makes for very good background but is not the main subject of the image. And I'm sure that was exactly your intention.

I know you posted a new photo, but when I view your gallery page, these scenes are just too good to pass up on.
Interesting to see a satellite dish on the top left. seeing the narrow crowded street and the colorful attire is just so eye catching. love seeing and learning about these far away places that most tourists never get to see. great pic
