Another Ptolemaic sarcophagus, this time in profile rather than shot through glass looking straight down. The vulture seen in the headdress was a symbol of Upper Egypt (Thebes / Luxor) and was known as Nekhbet. By the time the ancient Greeks had arrived in 305 BC, spearheaded by Alexander the Great and his companion Ptolemy, Upper and Lower Egypt (Giza) had long since settled their differences. The occupying Persians were defeated by Alexander in 332 BC, & Greece then ruled Egypt until 30 AD with the death of Cleopatra and the transfer to Roman rule.

Hello Chris,
It's a fantastic piece of ancient art which you captured with a good light and strong colours. I couldn't really locate what's supposed to be a vulture, but the jackals are cute. They look like dogs in a cartoon or maybe graffiti.

Hi Chris,
Good quality presentation. I usually give up on taking photos in museums, and interiors in general.
This one has a really golden touch and nicely reflects the light. I suppose horizontal position suits better the sarcophagus.
