Photographer's Note
Back in 2011 we lived in Cairo during the revolution that ousted Mubarak. This lady lived next door to us and was looking down on the streets as the men prepared barricades to protect the neighborhood from looters. The police out of fear from the masses had abandoned their posts and the streets were ruled by the rioters. The neighborhood quickly organize a barricade system to protect their apartments from the mob.

Ciao Giovanni,a beautiful photo, the woman's face expresses all the concern of the moment without showing what happens in the blurred background, a very artistic composition of a part of history that seemed a hope for this nation but has turned into a boomerang for freedoms and democracy. A great macro style portrait of the lady contemplating Egypt's then troubles. The out of focus light are great for the rest of the photo.

Hello Giovanni,
You made a good observation and managed an interesting composition. The woman is well placed and her thoughtful look suits the serious moment well. The blurred lights in the street have a fine effect, partly because of the diagonal they create.

Hi Giovanni
Brilliant photo, one of my favourites on TE ever! I love the narrow dof that threw the background out of focus but at the same time the "balcony lady" occupies just a tiny space in the frame, which suggests that the street, and what we know is happening there, is the main subject.

Very interesting scene from above a street of Cairo. This woman is clearly following carefully what is going on down there, but only your note reveals how unsettling the situation was. Blurry lights on the street work well.
